It should. He had to sell 1.5 billion in bonds, get a loan from Le$ for 275 million and assume 175 million of debt the Rockets have. Him and all of his businesses had less than 300 million in cash available at the time of the sale.

Right, staying in the luxury is a huge negative. That will cost them a fortune and keep them as a repeater. For what? Two mediocre at best first rounders?

If they lose Lebron they'll probably want to rebuild. It's better for them not stay in the luxury tax and while not necessarily tank, start a rebuilding process. Ryno can't play with Love and they can't move Ryno without attaching assets, so he'll either cost them a ton of money to not help their team and delay the reset of the luxury tax OR they'll have to spend assets to move him.

I just don't believe there's a good deal where Cleveland absorbs Ryno. It would have to be to a 3rd team. Cleveland is not going to want to lock themselves into the luxury tax to be a bad team.

Unless Lebron and CP3 take a big paycut, I don't think he's coming here.

Lebron is in a tough situation... does he care more about the money or does he care more about his legacy. He can probably pick one but not both, thanks to KD. There aren't many teams in the league that provide him with the ability to strengthen his legacy, though there are tons that have the cap space to give him the supermax. Let's see what he does.

You know what's also not based on the real world? Spending $2 billion on a sports franchise. LeBron's valuation and financial impact to a franchise has already been documented many times over. Am I saying that Fertitta should spend spend spend, luxury tax be damned? Nope. I'm saying that to think there's "no reason to believe" Tilman would spend money to bring in talent is 1) just an assumption based on no real evidence and 2) a bit comical given the fact that his wealth is generated through multiple avenues and wasn't in the same thrift store world that Les operated in.

if it should, its interesting how he continues to open up new businesses in houston. people question his value and spending act like they know his exact financial situation. don't kid yourself

you've said nothing here except I think your point is if he had debt he wouldn't be continuing to run his restaurant business which seems a really insane position.

If you have some alternative facts or would like to dispute the numbers feel free but your 4.4 billion valuation was put in context by my post.

ive said plenty. you trying to act like hes in debt bc you think you know all his financial numbers is just delusional. fertitta and reality say otherwise

Well we don't really know, might be for two unprotected 1st rounders, Gordon, 2nd rounders...i'm just saying, it might still be better than losing Lebron for nothing. And btw if they lose Lebron, Love will be traded too since he will not stay there anyway going forward, they can trade him into cap space or get back unguaranteed contracts, i mean, on paper there's a chance they'll be able to lower their salaries enough to eat Ryan's contract without staying in the luxury.

Ultimately i do think it won't be easy because different things has to happen in the right way, but i also don't see how a sign & trade scenario can be bad for the Cavs as long as they can get out of the luxury.

Are we all in agreement that if LeBron opts out and hits free agency, we're not getting him? No way we lose Capela, so opt-in and trade is the only route.

exactly. So much speculation. Enjoy the moment. We do not have think about it till we are out. Lebron probably won't put much energy into thinking about it till he is out of the playoffs too.

Plenty of businesses operate in debt. That's not necessarily an indictment on Fertitta's wealth. In order to expand a business, debt is something you HAVE to take on (unless of course you're financing the growth yourself). Why would Fertitta use his own money on the Rockets, or any of his other business ventures when there are probably dozens of banks lining up, willing to finance the projects for him? The Rockets are OBVIOUSLY a money-maker, so the risk is pretty low that a financier wouldn't see returns on their loan.

Durant went to the team that kept putting him out of the playoffs. Lebron would be going to a team in a different conference. Its a totally different situation.

Posted this a few months back. I don't see Ryno as movable this offseason, but there is another route for us to get LeBron, outlined above -
Gordon, Tucker, Qi, Onuaku, Jackson, and Nene
