SALT LAKE CITY – C.J. Paul wasn’t sure what he’d done.

It was midway through the third quarter, with his brother’s Houston Rockets pulling away from the Utah Jazz in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals at Vivint Smart Home Arena. And C.J., who works as Chris’ business manager and was sitting baseline in a checkered collared shirt, was suddenly being told by a security guard that he had to leave.

The cameras caught the entire scene, with C.J. being escorted off the floor while Chris and Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni appeared to talk to the security staff on his way out. In the end, C.J. would only be gone for one play before he returned to his seat. As he explained after the Rockets’ 100-87 win that gave them a 3-1 series lead, it was a case of mistaken identity.

“The guy next to me called (referee James Williams) a (expletive), but they thought it was me,” C.J., who played collegiately at Hampton University and University of South Carolina-Upstate, told USA TODAY Sports. “The thing is, I know James. He reffed me in college. But (the security guard) comes up to me, and says ‘Hey, we need to talk to you in the back.' I said, 'for what?' I told them what happened. I don’t talk like that.”

And with that, we had the postseason's strangest incident involving NBA fans. From Oklahoma City star Russell Westbrook’s dust-ups with Utah fans in Game 6 of the first round to a similar situation with the Rockets’ James Harden after Game 2 in Houston, there have been a string of incidents on this front.

Yet this one, it seems, was the most confusing yet.

@vlaurelio illicits this type of reactions from people. I was baited into it before too. Clutch gave me a strike for going in too much.

Ignore his ass. He’s a Harden Only Fan. If you say anything critical about Harden you’re a hater. He’s a broken record without anything of substance to say.

Can we all just get along and enjoy this win? I agree Harden made some boneheaded plays tonight, but you gotta take the bad with the good. That's why we went out and got CP3. Clint Olajuwon was a beast in the paint tonight swatting everything coming his way. Pay the man!

I mean at this point theres not point complaining about it. Just expect it to happen and be happen it didn't cost us the game. Look on the bright side, even though he went through one of those games again in the second half, he contest Mitchel's shot and got an and 1 on the other side.

I mean I get it, yall need to chill though we got the win. How bout you just talk more about how Capella was amazing than Harden's poor performance. Let us get to the Warriors first before you start complaining.

I'm extremely disappointed in the Clutchfans doubters, whiners, and crybabies tonight.

Even some level-headed posters are trashing Harden.

You guys can't even fill up the Toyota Center and yet have the audacity to challenge the man who carried this team all the way here?

    This is sickening.

Clutchfans has become detrimental to my enjoyment of a huge Rockets win.

I'm gonna take a break from this board and just enjoy this win.
