I know. I posted a few weeks ago that he blew as a dh in 2016 and only hit last year when he was catching. But he is a liability there too. Need to call up white and give him 50-60 ab’s and put Gattis on the 10 day with back issues. After those whifs he probably has some
This team's offensive deficiencies are masked by 8, 9 and 10 run spankings against really bad pitching as you note. Take those out and this team is really subpar offensively. Compare them to AL contenders like NYY, BOS, LAA and their offense is clearly the worst. A lot of us felt the team would be exposed when the schedule got tougher and that's exactly what's happening. 10 tough games against quality opponents in LAA, NYY and ARI. Record of 3-7, aided by a gift of a game against a Minor League starter from ARI. How long can guys like Morton, Verlander, McCullers and Cole continue to pitch their asses off and stay motivated, knowing that if they give up even one or 2 runs and are facing a good opponent the odds of victory are not good?
It was great getting Cole to bolster the starting rotation but other than that the FO rested on their laurels. Back end of bullpen and DH are killing the team. Rondon was a solid add but Smith sucks. I think as far as LF is concerned the FO probably felt Tucker would eventually come up to man that spot this year.
Rondon has looked a lot better his past few outings. Velocity is still there and pitch location improving. Hopefully he gets more looks in high leverage spots.
If you were a fan of those other teams you would realize they are the same way Heck LAA is on a 4 game tear but before that scored 1, 1, 3, 2, 8, 2, 2 It’s baseball
So disappointing so far this year. It hurts because we all know the team is much better than this. Garret, Charlie and Justin deserve better than this.
I'm not sure you can really argue NYY and BOS are the same way. I'm all for optimism and keeping things in proper perspective, but there are some real gaping holes in the bullpen and lineup costing us games, as well as some bad trends nearly 40 games into the season such as the inability to hit decent/good pitching and not hitting with RISP. It's great we swept the O's and White Sox, and taking 2 of 3 from the A's was nice yet we've also lost series to the DBacks, Yankees, Angels, Rangers, Twins and have been shut out by Colon, Manea, and whoever beat us from the Padres. Rest of the month we face the Angels and Rangers again, the Indians, Yankees, Red Sox, and Giants. It's only going to get harder. Hopefully you're right and this is nothing more than a limited dry spell they'll bounce back from, but man I just can't take the team seriously when they keep forcing Gattis into games. The FO must agree with you given the lack of urgency to make any changes.
I’m sorry. You must have thought it was still 2017. Welcome to the 2018 Astros where pissing away quality starts is what they do.
