If all of those players had their average drop 100 points and their OPS 200 points in the majors they would still be out performing the trash that is Gattis, Fisher, and Marisnick
This is a huge reason why I'm pissed at Martes right now. He could be that guy, but he's got a whole lot of "uncoachable" in him, apparently. Nobody's asking me, but this would be my plan of attack: Option Gattis, try 1 of the 2 guys in AAA at DH. Tell Devo that he is now the closer. That is his job, and he is going to be used just like any other closer. Shake out the rest of the bullpen pecking order. Give Marwin/Fisher a bit more time in LF this month. Failing that, get a bat. Or could be Tucker/Alvarez. Package some stuff later in the year for a bullpen stud. Alvarez, Tucker and Whitley are the only 3 guys I do not trade out of the system. Everyone else is fair game.
The scouts have Fisher down pat. Pitch strikes early, get him behind in the count, then make him chase and miss.
He really seems to want the ball to be perfectly in a little zone for him to swing early in the count. Everyone from Hinch on down to us knows it and has commented on it. He can have such a sweet looking compact swing at times, but then the others....Combine the 2, and...
The guys who make it at the ML level vs those that dont is much about who can adjust. Fisher better widen his hit zone or he is toast.
It's just as much his swing too, when he does swing. He's got such a quick bat when he does it right, he's just not repeating it. Which leads me to believe he's doing way too much guessing/thinking when he gets deep in counts.
Zero confidence in this bullpen trying to preserve a 1-0 lead. This is turning into another nightmare end-of-game scenario.
You know Morton's gonna be telling him "at least mine was a line drive". eta: speaking of Fish, that guy should bunt for hits a whole lot more than he does.
