He looks so disappointed in himself, tough to watch. This is reminding me a lot of how I felt when we were witnessing Schaub's career melt down a few years ago, the guy is competing the best he can but the talent has just fallen off. Like I did with Schaub back then, I really really hope he can turn it all around. Schaub couldn't, but here's hoping Giles can.
You are writing White off way too quick. He didn’t do well during his first rodeo in 2016. In 2017, he had 67 plate appearances against MLB pitching, with a .279 BA and .863 OPS. He needs more plate appearances, he could be an above average player.
really want a W tonight. But just don't have any confidence in Keuchal and Severino is 4-1 with a 2.61 ERA. Gulp.
Alright, had to step away from the Astros last night. Individual losses don't concern me in the long term, they are gonna happen. But last night was easily the most aggravating loss of the year for me. Don't how much longer we are gonna continue effectively playing 7 man lineups. We are getting pitcher level production from LF and DH. Hopefully DK has a good one in him.
I'm not writing him off. I don't think he's a better hitter than Gattis over the next month or two at DH. I don't know if he'll hit well enough for DH. Even if I'm wrong, which I've been more lately than usual, very doubtful Astros cut Gattis any time in next month. He still makes money that Astros would like to use elsewhere this season. As such, Astros likely keep him until much closer to the deadline and try to package him off with someone like Reed if they can't get rid of him in other means. Edit: It usually takes a lot for me to drastically change my opinion on an established position player. As such, splits data matters very little to me. When a guy plays horribly for a year, I'm going to be wrong about that guy and one of the last to admit it.
Agreed, I think the most likely scenario is that Gattis experiences a "back problem," gets put on the 20 day DL, and we see White or Reed get a short audition. But I don't think White would do worse than Gattis at DH at this point. It would be hard to do worse. One other option is that the Astros could pass Gattis through waivers. Not sure any other team would want to pick up his contract right now. They could then send him down to the minors.
Gattis OPS: Home:.194 Road: .888 I kid you not. http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/splits/_/id/32863/evan-gattis
I know it’s a long season and you lose games in a number of ways, but to waste JV’s start last night really bothered me. It being the Yankees definitely made it worse for me.
Astros' flipping their inability to hit bad pitching last night by hitting good pitching tonight could happen. F*** Kershaw Now, what will Keuchel do ?
I HATE YOU AND I HOPE YOU DIE.. @Rocketman95 That's what ol' Dave used to say. It got him kicked out of a bar. At 3PM. On a Thursday.
Word on the street says, players sometimes do that to avoid getting an error. The official scorer is supposedly more leniant during said situation.
