First of all, slavery was part of human history. It's was terrible but can't change anything from our past.

secondly, did I or Kanye say that? Why don't you digest what Kanye said

They can stop self-victimizing themselves! Slavery self-victimization, Civil War self-victimization, Jim Crow self-victimization, institutionalized racism self-victimization. When will the blacks just start getting along with ereyone? o_O

I know right, when will the United States stop keeping brothers down? Can you believe we only had 1 black president?

It would be cool if you just said what you meant

I don't know know what you're saying to me in either thread and wouldnt care if you just left it there.

The "thanks" was just something about the thread title that has since been changed by the thread starter

Edit: you already started a thread about me

    Relax it's no big deal

We are all gonna die one day.

I just wanted to say we all gonna die one day. You can quote me

Yes, when will it? Can you believe we only had like 40 something consecutive white male Presidents? What are the odds? If only the blacks bootstrapped themselves a little better and stopped listening to the rap music they too could partake in the'Murican dream. Can you believe the current President became a self-made billionaire only with a couple million dollars from his daddy? If the blacks worked a little harder, they too could trickle down millions to their childrens. Oh yes, it's all true!

Pretty ignorant thing for Kanye to say. I imagine he might eventually regret saying it.

Not that anyone is really going to care in this thread, but he didn't say slavery was a choice.

"You hear about slavery for 400 years. 400 years?! That sounds like a choice."

...and the rest of the quote...

"Like ... you was there for 400 years and it's all of y'all?"

He's referring to people of today who continue to talk about slavery as if they were the ones who were enslaved. He is saying they are making the choice to refer to themselves in this fashion today.

Have whatever opinion of Kanye you like, but let's at least accurately represent what he was saying.

And if I missed something where he said blacks chose to stay in slavery please correct me.

edit...I just watched the video and that section we are discussion like 5 times. I'm still trying to fully understand what he was saying after hearing it rather than simply reading the quote. I don't think he was saying blacks stayed in slavery by choice, but I think he was talking about being closed minded. I have no ****ing clue really. He's in the middle of some kind of spectacular manic episode.

Kanye said exactly what he meant to say. There is nothing to unpack from his dumb-ass statements. "400 years of slavery and no one thought to get out of slavery". He meant what he said. People (wypipo) are trying to make sense of this foolery like Kanye has some great insight. He doesn't. He's an idiot. He craps on all the abolitionists and revolutionaries that rebelled against slavery like Harriet Tubman and Nat Turner.

Slavery wasn't a choice. But that's not what Kanye said. He said continuing to perpetuate the victim narrative is a choice. Which is correct.

I'm guessing that editing job was done to purposefully leave out some context to create some juicy rage bait. Mission accomplished.

If this is correct I agree. It's time to look forward. We don't want to let the misery go but we want everyone else to move forward in their attitude on race

I cannot wait till Trump convinces Kanye (or Kanye convinces Trump) to let him speak at a Trump rally. That’ll go over well I guarantee you.

I guess I was trying to understand it because the other guy who argued with Kanye seemed to agree about the length of time of the 400 years of slavery point.

Also he literally didn’t say the quote you said.

“You hear a it slavery for 400 years. 400 years?! That sounds like a choice. Like, you was there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all.

You know like, it’s like we’re mentally in prison because slavery goes too direct to the idea of blacks. It’s like slavery, holocaust. Holocaust is Jews. Slavery is blacks. So prison is one thing that unites us as one race. Blacks and whites being one races. That we are one. That we are the human race.”

So take his statements for whatever they are worth but there they are all laid out for that one little section.

Enough wasting my day on Kanye drama. I will never get back the 20 minutes it took away from my life.:D

Actually its not what Kanye articulated at all with his initial statement.

This is the Trump formula, only this time folks are carrying the water for Kanye. Say something controversial/ignorant but vague enough to tow the line enough for "your team" of supporters to come up behind you and say "What he REALLY meant was....". Trump does the same thing all the time. Kanye is just following his lead in his own way, or he is just as ignorant & inarticulate to use his platform for stirring up controversy rather than engage the public in constructive dialog.

Kanye isn't using "free thought".. he's using half baked ideas with inarticulate expression... likely on purpose to elicit controversy.

    .............

The big question here is if Trump & Kanye are artfully ignorant on purpose to troll for a living or they really just are that ignorant & inarticulate & just lucked into a cult following that will constantly explain their ignorant thoughts in the most charitable way possible at all times.

There are many forms of slavery. Kidnapping and POW captives are the most common forms.

However debt slavery was not uncommon. Debt slavery includes willingly selling oneself up front to a master or trader so their family could have food or some sort of supply or even selling family members. There are those who defaulted on their debt and were forced into slavery. You also have 'debt to society' where those who committed a serious/capital crime were forced into slavery.

Im not going to get into what percentage of slaves fall into which category. Slavery was a very complex situation.

I'm not defending the dumb **** that came out of his mouth but I think he misspoke (never thought I would use that word in a real sentence). What I'm hoping he meant was that that yes people were kidnapped from countries and enslaved, indigenous people that were in America prior to European imperialism were rounded up and enslaved, yes his happened and the slaves (which were all racers btw) had no choice in being enslaved but to stay in slavery when a lot of slaves would risk death in the attempt to escape north to freedom, to stay on a plantation and be a slave after a while becomes a choice. It's not appropriately analogous to a person in a shitty job or a bad relationship but if you want to draw parallels you shouldn't be persecuted for doing such. Think about if were indoctrinated into martial law today, how many of you would just sit there and take it?

All slaves weren't black. You're correlative assumptive question kinda makes Kanye's point. And yes, some black people signed up to be indentured servants and sharecroppers to feed their families.
