The convention wisdom is that if you are a former player, especially a GREAT player, you must know basketball extremely well. It sounds logical. But time and again this has been shown far from the truth.
Ryan Russilo just said he has a trusted source that has told him Paul George is as good as gone http://www.espn.com/espnradio/play?id=23369673 (start at 12:39 of the podcast)
Will the media hand Westbrook another MVP for averaging a triple double on a 47 win team after his star teammate leaves for California?!?!?!?!?
I'm sure the Rockets will try their hardest, but it takes two to tango. I think he's already got his mind on Beverly Hills.
LOL, that moment stuck with me too. That was the EXACT example of the difference between stat people with no skin in the game and ex-players talking up their buddies or ex-players parroting tired narratives. Might not be as "chuckle hut" entertaining but if they had Arnovitz, Lowe, and Haberstroh on a "Inside the NBA" show with EJ the public would be WAY more informed.
Paul would be the perfect fit here in Houston. With Chris Paul aging, Paul would be a solid 2nd option. This would allow Chris to not have as much of a load and be fresh in the playoffs.
Not sure why he would return. Even the financial incentives aren't that great. He can get one more guaranteed year with OKC and a few mil extra per season. But he turns 28 tomorrow. There's no reason to think he can't score at least one more respectable contract after this next one when he's 32. OKC is done. They have no cap flexibility assuming Melo opts in. And even if they did, who the hell would sign there?
I pray we can entice Paul George. If we get a meeting with him, Morey, Pringles, Harden, and CP3 would make 1 hell of a pitch. We have a great culture and very well-run organization with an established system in place along with the MVP and another top 10 player in CP3 who both make those around them better. We are a contender looking to win multiple titles. The space PG would have to work with on the court would be unlike anything he’s ever experienced in his career to date. He is exactly what we need. I know y’all have seen just how dominant we look whenever Ariza busts out for 20 or more points. Well, PG can do that almost every night.
