Huge. With any level of sustained success in AA he will end the season as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball.
Also huge. Doesn’t have the impact/upside of Martin’s promotion, but if Rojas is able to hit in Corpus like he has in BC he will go from fringy prospect to a guy who could project as a future everyday major league hitter.
SS Arturo Michelena was released from AA to make room for Rojas. Michelena received a decent bonus as an int'l signee in 2011, but was never able to hit well enough to be a legit prospect. After 6 pro seasons he's still just 23. RP Ralph Garza was placed on the DL to make room for Corbin Martin. Buies Creek now has an open roster spot likely to be filled by a 13th pitcher.
For those searching for context to the post above: Jonathan Arauz hit a grand slam for Quad Cities in the 1st inning of their game in Great Lakes. It's his 2nd homer of the year. Jake Adams also hit a grand slam in the 1st. That is Adams' 3rd homer of the year. Quad Cities is up 11-0 in the 2nd inning
Ronnie Dawson is 2-3 with a 3-run homer and has driven in 4 of Buies Creek's 5 runs tonight. The Carolina Stros have fought back from a 5-0 deficit to the tie game. Unfortunately, Hector Perez only recorded one out via strikeout. He allowed 5 runs on 5 hits (solo homer) and walked 3. Kit Scheetz has picked him up with 3.2 scoreless, allowing 2 hits and striking out 4.
Arauz is 4-5 so far tonight. He came in 6-34 in his last 10 games, so there's a nice turnaround effort for him.
All moves from today: Arturo Michelena released (was with Corpus) Corbin Martin to Corpus Christi from Buies Creek Josh Rojas to Corpus Christi from Buies Creek Gabriel Valdez joins Buies Creek from extended spring training Colin McKee to Buies Creek from Quad Cities
Enoli Paredes joined QC, he worked as a starter there last year before injury. It'll be interesting to see if he is now a reliever as he's replacing McKee who was a pure reliever.
Yordan Alvarez hit two homers today for Corpus. He now has 6 on the season. The first blast was good for two runs in the 1st and he led off the 9th with a solo shot. Taylor Jones is 4-5 with a two-run single and Josh Rojas is 2-3 with an RBI triple and two runs scored.
Alvarez entering into elite territory. Guys that young who hit for average and power in AA have a pretty good track record. Untouchable in my book.
