Going from top five Cy Young voting too Mid-rotation type numbers on an average team over the span of a year or two, which is kinda bogus (Verlander’s had “down years”)

But really it was poor management on the Pirates coaching staff and analytics people. Cole has a top rated slider according to Fangraphs yet it was his least thrown pitch in 2017

No...they lost a lot of support during those very lean years. You don't remember the 0 television rating?

Awesome to see Giles’s performance. Peacock, not so much. Is Peacock this year's Mike Fiers?

Based on walking one batter they probably didn't want him challenging?

I don't know that the Astros ever talked about it, but this was the fantasy news:

    Sat, Apr 21

Ken Giles (back) worked a scoreless ninth inning in Friday's victory over the White Sox.

Advice: Giles set down the White Sox in order on just nine pitches. The right-hander had been unavailable the last few days due to a back issue, but it appears all is well now. He should resume his closing duties the next time a save situation arises.

Hinch did mention that Giles had been unavailable with back issues at the time. I believe it was after the fact.

Really then how do you explain it? Astros all but said it and are mixing in his slider 20% more than the Pirates

Took a look at a Yankees fan forum this morning just for fun and they are beyond salty. They are dumbfounded by JV's resurgence in Houston and CFM and Cole's increase in velocity/spin rate. They're convinced that they're either roiding or using banned substances to get a better grip on the ball.:D They can't quite come to grips with the fact that the Astros pitching coaches and analytical staff is likely way ahead of the rest of the league (including NYY).

Segura from the mariners last week implied the same thing about Morton using peds.
Our advanced technology pitching machine and brent strom don't get enough credit.

Amen to that. Also, not that "good guys" haven't fooled us in the past, but Charlie seems like he's probably the least likely guy to take PED's. Seems to be as much of a stand-up guy as there is.

Much of it is buying too much into the hype about your own team and consequently underrating everyone else. Some of that happens around here as well. This is why I like playing other teams that are more or less as good as we are. Sometimes its a reality check.

The Yankees organization is the best about getting velocity increases in the minors.
