I didn't laugh at a lot of her speech. Some bits were funny, but she was straight savage. I felt bad for sanders watching that. I am surprised people there didn't want to fight her. I though sanders was going to just fight her on stage with the anger in her eyes.

I've always felt that the WHCD was the only thing left in Washington that had a shred of dignity/humanity left in it.

It's pretty much the only "public" event in the entire political game where people actually let loose a little bit and remove the sticks from their butts.

If you don't go to the dinner, or you show up and do nothing but scowl, it typically means you're an asshat who takes themselves too seriously.

I don’t think it makes someone an asshat to be unhappy sitting there being called a liar and an Uncle Tom.

There’s no dignity in that event. Just because they dress up nice doesn’t make it dignified.

We're getting into the realm of the subjective i.e. 'dignified' but let's just say I'm not surprised anyone connected with the Trump administration was unable to laugh at themselves.

I couldn't handle her voice, jeeezuz.

Most of it was not out of line at all.

I believe I read that she has a new show - Daily Show, Full Frontal type thing - debuting soon.

I don't care about this at all. Nobody else should either.

Considering that the "liberal media" got it as much as the Administration, I hope this doesn't stick around as some sort of talking point.

Back in the GWB years, several media outlets (NYT for one) decided not to attend because they thought that the media was being too nice and chummy with the Administration.

The WHCA got started back in the day because the White House tried to take control over what journalists would be allowed to talk to members of the Administration and attend press briefings.

    And so it goes.

I didn't find the speech that great to be honest. I don't feel bad for Sanders though. The least she could have done was played along and had a laugh instead of becoming a snowflake. Maybe its just too real for her. Whether or not the speech was good however is subjective. What isn't is the double standard republicans play regarding free speech. We can hold Nazi Rallies or idolize Milos talking about the good in pedophilia, but this is crossing the line? The republicans there are the biggest snowflakes of all and it is painfully obvious they are unwilling to practice what they preach in the name of free speech. I mean at least the Presidents in the past had enough of a spine to be roasted in person. The material could have been better for sure, but it didn't help that everyone there seemed like they were walking on egg shells. Under those conditions a comedian will almost assuredly fail. Is this the USA?

I dunno. I think Obama taking the mic and throwing shade at Trump in 2011 will certainly live on throughout history as the defining moment of the event.

Trump could have made this event pretty eventful and entertaining if he wasn’t the worst version of himself that he currently is. There is certainly a lot to laugh at with that guy.

What makes the event really is the presidents involvement. You lose them and it’s just a Netflix comedy bit with Maggie Habberman Twitter commentary.

While it wasn't all funny in the conventional sense, her saying that directly to the faces of those brave enough to attend was hilarious. It made me uncomfortable in a way that Curb Your Enthusiasm sometimes makes me. There wasn't one thing she said that wasn't based on truth. Given what Trump and Sanders and Conway say and do on a daily basis, I do not get the outrage over their getting called out. Y'all got grabbed!

It shouldn't be unexpected. You skip if you can’t handle it. And we all know trump ego is fragile and he is a coward.

I don’t get the attention. It was a meh, the jokes and the outrage. But I guess it hit home for some too sensitive folks.

I believe they call it 'fake outrage' when others, not them, do it.

insult comedy is always a fine line, her problem is she just wasn't funny

also, there has to be some sense that you like the person you are roasting, if it's just dripping with contempt, it doesn't work

Sanders is that chick at a party that everyone looks at when there was a mysterious giant dump that broke the toilet.

Luckily she has a grotesque personality, the jokes were on point in this instance.

I found it odd that someone said that they attacked Sander's look

I felt like . . .you thought it was about her looks. . . because you don't like her looks . . they were projecting .

Is this how conservatives cast their vote?
