I guess they are OK when elites don't mock them?

Republicans love pretending they are victims while they support people who do evil ****.

    (Donald Trump, Roy Moore)

I'm tired of this "elites" nonsense.

Matt Schlapp is the son of a local politician who went to private school, Notre Dame for college and as a 20 something got to work for a Congressman right away. He then worked on the Bush campaign and became an advisor through 2004 before joining Koch industries as a Vice President and then became chairman of the oldest lobbying organization in the United States. He and his wife are rich and well connected. They go to all of these parties, hob nob with the rich and famous, etc.

Matt Schlapp is one of the elite.

Well, it appears the dust has settled and all of the farts have been sniffed. Marvel movies have more unpredictable plots than how this "uproar" played out.

She had a good point when she said "you should have done more research before asking me to do this." She's a vulgar comedian (is there any other type nowadays?) What did they expect her to do? Also, she came from a liberal show on politics and culture (The Daily Show). What did they expect? All they could have hoped for was slightly less crudeness and vulgarity, but I don't know why they would have invited her knowing her routines. Seems like all they cared about was getting a female comedian so they can fill that minority demographic checkbox.

Of course they aren’t. The biggest joke about these right wing politicians and media coffee boys is that they are mostly bitter about not being invited to the cool kids table in Hollywood.

Look at Steve Bannon as a prime example. The guy worked his entire life before politics to work in Hollywood. Read up on all his rejected movie/tv scripts.

These guys on the right crave the attention from the so-called “liberal elites”. Nobody craves it more than the Donald himself. His entire life has been based around this drive/grievance towards earning the admiration of “liberal elites”. If he had the opportunity to flip to Democrat and win the admiration of Beyoncé, Leo, and Bono, he’d be a Democrat by lunch today.

It takes an elite to bring down other elites. Hence Trump.

It’s fking stupid and a lazy use of labeling when you feel you should be part of that class but you aren’t.

Can someone post the meanest roast of Obama at the dinner?

Meanwhile if the biggest celeb you can attract to your event is kathy griffin it's time to pack it in.

TBH the only reason why the WHCD was a big deal the past few years is because Barrack was actually there and took the podium himself for a few gaffs. It can’t be said enough that the significance of the event is about as important as CSPAN reruns of Harry Reid’s Senate Floor speech on tariffs.

Nah, the last big speech was when Colbert went nuts on GWB in 2006.

The reaction was the same, pearl-clutching outrage.

His critics were vindicated, as Colbert slowly faded into obscurity and GWB is fondly remembered as one of the great Presidents.

Just watched it. SHS didn't get treated unfairly. Seemed like a standard correpondents' dinner roast to me.

Also, Michelle Wolf's voice is god awful.

You aren't allowed to criticize women. A woman doing it makes it somehow worse as they are supposed to stick together.

I didn't much like it. My feelings on the Trump Admin are too raw, for one. She was also very crude, delivery wasn't good, looked like she was essentially reading the whole thing, her voice is annoying, and more than several jokes just fell completely flat. Insults directed at Trump and allies seemed much more vicious than the ones directed at Democrats or the media. Don't blame Trump for not attending. I don't know how this became a tradition, but we should probably stop now. I don't think it does anything good for anyone. Well, except Michelle Wolf -- good job getting your name out there!

Totally agree that it's a bad tradition.

Roasts in general are bad. Only work when the person doing the roasting is a friend of yours, then the jokes can be done in the right spirit. A comedian coming in to roast people? What do they think she's going to do? Tell some mildly embarrassing story from Sarah's childhood?

I don't consider it impressive or funny to be paid to stand in a room full of people who mostly think the way you do and take shots at someone on camera who can't defend themselves.

People are still talking about this?

Of all the things going on in the world, this is the most trivial topic out there right now.

I still don't know who this chick is. I'm not sure she did herself any favors this weekend either, but time will tell I guess.
