Yeah, it was for Thanos a bittersweet moment, overlooking a beautiful landscape after a mission accomplished (and at a great cost) but it was unnerving as hell because we knew what happened. Awesome movie.

What do you say about Lady Death in the comics that Thanos did it all for her and not because of finite resources as he claimed? I kind of wanted to watch a little of her.
    Lol

I would have liked to see that, but I also see why they didn't do it. I thought it was an interesting aspect of the character but I think they nailed him without it.

I like this, because it means they are going to make more of them.

They are mashing it right now. I thought Infinity war with that many characters would be almost impossible to turn in to a good movie.

    WRONG!

I wonder how big the Black Panther's role will be in the next film. After the huge success of Black Panther, one wonders if they give him a rather big role in the next film. They just better let Drax be the one to finish off Thanos.

He won't have a big role. These things have been mapped out well in advance. They won't veer far off course just because a character got popular. It's a strength of the MCU, one DC sorely lacks. A unified vision, and absolute confidence in what they are doing.

I'm sure BP's popularity will make him a focal point in Avengers 5, but it was too late in the game to make him a major player in these 2. Marvel is banking huge on Captain Marvel being extremely popular. Having 2 bankable super heroes will be huge for them in a post Iron Man world. But for the time being, Avengers 4 is all about Iron Man and Captain America finishing their story.

This was a rare instance where the movie did a better job than the book.

In the comics Thanos is in love with and worships Death who is a female embodiment. He is a nihilist madman who is actually doing deaths bidding. Death believed the fact there were more beings alive currently than had ever died to be a cosmic imbalance and Thanos sought to impress her by doing the job. The movies justification of his desire to kill half the population because of him personally seeing overpopulation dooming some planets was a much better premise.

I can say with absolute confidence that MCU Thanos was substantially better than comic book Thanos. He was always a mediocre villain whose supreme power was the only interesting thing about him IMO. It was one of my biggest concerns coming into the movie.

They've have made quite a few changes to various characters and relationships for the MCU, and they have almost always been for the better.

    What was
Strange's end game? Was it just to keep Stark alive or did I miss something?

He looked into the future with the Time Stone, and there was only one possible path in which they win. That involves Tony Stark being alive, and Thanos succeeding in collecting the stones. As he was evaporating, he told Stark that it was the only way, so one can assume this was part of his plan.

When he looked forward into the future at all possibilities he saw a scenario where they win, but he had to give up the time stone to save Tony's life in order for that reality to happen.

Are the same directors and writers back for Part 2? Continuity matters, especially after seeing the results of Star Wars VII and VIII. I loved it when Thor brought the magical ax down on Thanos's army. Not all that important in the end, but still great entertainment.

Yes, and both movies were filmed at the same time (at least initially), then they split them up a bit.

What's so great about this film is that it's a culmination of ten years of character and story development. The care and patience put into the entire Marvel franchise pays off masterfully here, in both the small, subtle moments as well as the bombastic ones. And none of these moments would have worked if not for the movies that came before them.

Thanos is quite possibly the best villain in the movieverse, with Civil War coming second. As has been said, most antagonists are pretty one dimensional and forgettable, but he is such a complex character here. You can certainly understand his motivations, while still considering him to be a monster.

I got a few nitpicks, but my biggest one, and what keeps me from saying it's the best Marvel film, is that it's unfinished. It's not quite a stand-alone movie but rather part of a larger story. And I couldn't buy into that emotional gut punch of an ending because it's obviously not what it appears. Still, I think I'll enjoy it even more after multiple viewings. So much to unpack it's definitely worth watching again and again.

I missed it in the movie, but when I saw the credits I also had to look it up.

Wow just Wow. I am really amazed they actually pulled it off. 10 years 18 movies all leading to this and it worked. The interactions between characters we have known for so long were amazing. It is really a great movie. Definitely one of the best blockbuster movies I have ever seen (probably the best). Seldom I come out of a movie wanting to watch it again immediately, but that was the case here.
