If we strike out on Carmelo Anthony, is keeping Ryan Anderson really THAT bad???

  1. No, Ryan is about to show the world he's on J.R. Smith's level.

  2. Yes, I've seen enough. I have grown to HATE Ryan Anderson.

not sure how I missed this.

Yes Melo is completely washed. Give me ryno every day of the week over melo.

At least ryno doesn't waste many possessions.

I really do wonder what would've happened if we'd have ended up with Melo. On one hand, I'd like to think that CP3 and James could've reigned in some of his boneheaded shot selection and ball stopping. They're both much better creators than Russ and George, so Melo would've gotten better looks in the flow of the offense. On Wide Open three pointers, he's shooting over 40%.

On the other hand, Melo would've envisioned himself as part of a "Big 3" here as well and would've wanted to participate in the ISO party that Harden/Paul have going on. And that would've been ugly. As it is, Melo takes 18% of his possessions in ISO and scores 0.89 Points per Possession. Compared to Harden's 35% / 1.22 PPP and Paul's 29% / 1.10 PPP (#1 and #2 in the league, respectively), it could've been a real burden on our offense.

He clearly thinks too highly of himself to become a spot-up shooter, so I think we dodged a bullet.

It has been weird watching OKC fold its tent against the Jazz. A fun game last night because there is something about OKC I just can't stand (hmn, what would that be, hmn, can't put my finger on it, OH YEAH IT'S WESTBROOK), but now I have to root for OKC to drag out the series.

Somehow the Carmelo-George-Westbrick thing just hasn't set the world on fire. Maybe we did dodge a bullet with the Melo swing-and-a-miss.

While true Melo could have wanted in the ISO party, i think Morey would have stopped it if it wasn’t effective. Same way as Morey told Dwight no post ups. I think Melo would have gotten enough open 3s to accodomate his shots. But who knows

Because Melo's game is stuck in the early 2000s. It's no longer ISO for the mid range post shot. That was the dominate wing move of the 90s and 2000s. His style of play doesn't fit with other stars. He should have never left Denver. Grass isn't always greener.

Paul George is the star we should want. He can make a difference even without the ball in his hands.

I maintain that he would have been far better in Houston with Harden and CP3 than he is in OKC with Westbrook. That's an obvious trend.

But yeah...yikes. He'll be lucky to make the MLE on his next contract.

Don’t know why people have ever been infatuated with Melo. He’s great to play with on 2K but has never been a reliable leader or winner and drama has always followed. So so glad we hit a home run by not getting him.

a system doesn't put the ball in the basket for you. he just isn't a good basketball player anymore. if he isn't hitting his jumpers, he gives you absolutely nothing else at this stage of his career. can't play defense, can't create anything for others, doesn't even move without the ball

hoodiemelo was a huge gimmick. sure you can look great in an open gym. actual nba 2018 melo just sucks

well based on the offseason it looked like he was extremely motivated. i have to admit, i was a bit fooled. but extremely glad we dodged this bullet. It goes to show you actually have to show what you can do in actual nba games to show your worth.

The problem with okc IS MELO.. They need to start Patterson to spread the floor and bring in MELO off the bench for scoring. The man wont even entertain coming off the bench. Dumb coach.. dumb players

I used to love Melo because I thought his jumper was beautiful and he was lethal as a scorer...I liked watching his tough shot making ability and he was extremely clutch at 1 point

now he’s washed and has no athleticism, but from like 09-13, Melo was 1 of my favorite players

Bro Melo will never be that ***** again. He is a Jason Terry for the rest of his career. Once this max is done he’ll go from mid level exception to slowly minimum player year by year

Morey didn't dodge a bullet, Anderson hasn't exactly been good here if Melo's sin is by commission (chucking shots) then Anderson's sin is by ommission (scared to take shots).

A lot of Melo's poor play can be attributed to Westbrick's obsession with the triple double, Melo has to box out just so Westbrick can get his rebs how is that supposed to make him feel like the team is out to win a ring?

Both Melo and Anderson are playing horribly but I guess Anderson is better cuz he is cancer free and he is 5M cheaper. Melo has much higher upside though, but I guess with this team you shie away from high risk players since we can nail Anderson's ass on the bench but Melo will become a cancer if you bench him.

I'm pretty much in this camp...in the end we'll never know how it would've been with Melo here, i'm fine with that, just consider that when the enviroment is really good there's a good chance bad/problematic players will be able to make a good impact too, just look at how Brewer and Josh Smith played here.
