They had Gordon out twice on the bases and didn't make a throw either time. ...and the bats have turned into a collective strikeout machine against a guy who can't strike people out. Leake's high in K's last season was 7. He had 8 in 18 IP coming into the game. He now has 7 in 4 innings tonight.
Not to be outdone, Gonzalez weakly strikes out himself. Stros striking out at an alarming rate compared to last year so far, not a good sign.
It's a teamwide funk. I think they're pressing, they look tight and definitely don't seem like the fun-loving bunch we pretty much all last season.
Mike Leake's career high for strikeouts in a game is 12, which he set in a 2014 game against the Giants. Let's hope the Astros don't allow him to set a new career mark.
Good info from Julia and Blum on McCann tweaking his swing in adjustment to the shift. Half of his hits this year are to LF.
No idea why, especially with Yuli back so Marwin's free to move around, Davis or White are not up to replace him. I know it's early, but he's just completely overmatched. ...and of course he just snags a HR 2 pitches after I post that. I wish the ****-talking would help his bat, too.
He was ****ing with Cole. I've seen a guy, don't remember who, do that, then pound his glove looking all pissed off, then casually throw the ball back to the IF.
Does Jose plan on seeing more than on pitch per AB again this season? Also, is it me or does his leg kick seem a little more exaggerated this year?
Got jobbed out of a run there, gotta get these guys home. eta: Thank you, Marwin! Pettis got to test out the windmill there. You may be right, hadn't really noticed. I'd have to go back and watch some ABs from last year.
