This is just outstanding. Now Bush (and Cheney) are put on the spot. Clearly, Libby thought (and I'm sure his legal team thought) that he'd be out on appeal, and that the appeals process would last until the end of Bush's term, with the assumption that Bush would pardon Libby. NOW, Libby faces jail while he appeals the decision, which could take a VERY long time. Bush either has to pardon Libby now, or risk Libby offering to spill the beans to stay out of the slammer, if that is still an option for him. (it may not be... I'm not a lawyer)

Chaos in the White House today! You can count on it.

We're in a needless war brought about by your hero, George W. Bush. The chaos I refer to, as you know very well, is the chaos of dealing with a very large blow to the President and Vice-President, not to mention Libby, for having their Fall Guy go to jail, instead of sitting around appealing the conviction until Bush ends his term with a pardon for Scooter. If that impacts the disaster in Iraq, then things are even more ****ed up in the White House than I thought.

And I am, indeed, disappointed with you, basso.

So should they just get a free pass and be able to break any law they want?

Thank you for admitting that we haven't declared war on anyone.

Anyway I hope the traitor Libby has a nice time in jail.

We're at war, and in another post you advocated Congress just letting possible corruption, and crime go unchecked because it might hamper the whitehouse from running its unsuccessful strategy.

Did I mention how disappointed I am in you?

Why Bush may blunder on Libby

Is it just me or is the DC establishment’s circling of the wagons around Scooter just a little bit over the top, even for them? I mean, I can appreciate the fact that he’s one of them and they think he’s been targeted by a runaway Republican prosecutor and a runaway Republican judge. (It happens.) But this rending of garments over him going to jail is verging on hysteria.

DC insiders don’t want Scooter to go to jail. It would be almost like — well, them having to go to jail themselves. And going to jail for your crimes (like going to Iraq to fight) is something for other people to do.

This pro-Scooter hurricane within the DC elite is pushing George W. Bush in the direction of a politically catastrophic pardon in two ways: first, as insider demands for action become ever shriller, the pressure on Bush to grant a pardon grows; second, the loud cries to “Free Scooter” by the people who own the biggest megaphones in the neighborhood may mislead him into believing a pardon will be reasonably well received.

It won’t be — not even close. In fact, pardoning Scooter will anger ordinary Americans in ways the Beltway crowd can’t begin to understand. And the reason they can’t understand, of course, is that the very elitism that causes them to support Scooter is what will feed the public rage.

Bush may well leave Scooter in his soup; he’ll definitely do so if he thinks it’s in his personal interest. It’s also possible that an appeals court will let Bush off the hook, at least for now, by overruling (the expected ruling) of the District Court judge requiring Scooter to begin serving his sentence immediately and reinstating bail pending the appeal. Normally, such an order would be unlikely, but somehow the unlikely has a tendency to happen in our increasingly partisan Republican federal courts when it helps a Republican bigwig.

But if Bush does give into the Beltway’s urgings and pardons Scooter — as I personally think is most likely — all hell is going to break loose, leaving Bush even more badly damaged than he is now. And if this occurs, one of the big reasons will be the cluelessness of the DC elite.

    No soup for you!

Scooter loses appeal on appeal. --

Libby, Ex-Cheney Aide, Must Go to Jail During Appeal

Lewis ``Scooter'' Libby, an ex-aide to Vice President Dick Cheney, must go to prison while appealing his conviction for obstructing a CIA leak probe, a U.S. appeals court said.

Libby may be behind bars within weeks under the decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, which denied his request for release during his appeal. The decision will increase pressure on President George W. Bush to decide soon whether to pardon Libby, 56, as the former White House official's supporters have urged.

trump is so obvious... sends a message that he will pardon anyone that is convicted of politically motivated treasonous crimes, and gets a dig into Comey and the intelligence community in the process.

Funny that you didn't show this kind of emotion when the previous president pardoned a traitor and a terrorist.....

    Tribalism is a funny thing.

Yet I bet we could go back and find dozens of posts of you whining about that pardon while you clearly don't give a sh*t about this one and immediately jumped to "b-b-but Obama!" Who's the real hypocrite?

Here you go sociopath. Funny that you can't distinguish between the corruption of pardoning political operatives and your Whataboutism. Deflecting to Obama is standard Trumpanzee behavior. Well done.

Set aside the merits of a pardon for Scooter Libby for a minute. I don't want to argue about whether he deserved one, but I think it's obvious to anyone who pays attention that Trump is going to do this pardon to send a message to his own allies right now; shut your mouth, I'll pardon you.
