Glad we got Cole and Verlander because Keuchel has been struggling. Everyone knows he's playing his last year with the Astros.
There is less room for error with a pitcher like Keuchel. If he is not precise, teams will light him up.
We need to break up Keuchel and McCullers in the rotation. You don't want back to back 5 inning guys.
Keuchel has really lost his mojo. Since his return from neck injury he has been up and down. This year only down.
Dallas had said he bulked up a considerable amount this offseason. Could that be a contributing factor?
I’ve been on the let Keuchel walk bandwagon for a while. Dude is not going to get better going forward. Age etc. He thinks he’s top quality when realistically we all know he’s not. I’m moving Cole to 2nd starter and pushing Keuchel back in the rotation.
I wonder if anyone has ever done a study of how well batters hit against their former teams. For example, Jason Castro, who had only one hit on the season coming into yesterday's game, got two hits, and today Grossman (who also had only one hit all season) already has a hit. SSS, sure. But that's my point - I wonder if anyone has studied this using a large data set. I remember Luis Valbuena last year hit something like 100 OPS points higher vs the Astros than he did vs all other teams combined. Maybe these are just anecdotes or fluky cases that mean nothing. But often, one gets the impression that hitters hit better against their former team than they do vs other teams.
