got a cortisone shot for my knee when the cartilage was gone, basically got instant relief within a day or two, six months later got the knee replaced. Also had cortisone for my torn achilles tendon, also got instant relief. I would not be bashful about it if your doctors think it might help
Get the cortisone, as long as they get the right area (and it'll be easier vs neck/back) you'll feel a lot better. Where was the tear at?
Wrist area. Tendon sheath tear. They will have to inject it into the tendon sheath. Have a bump left side of wrist that needs to be reduced
I'd personally go for the cortisone, can always add in the acupuncture if you want to try it at the same time etc., the cortisone should reduce inflammation and help with treatment along with suggested therapy. With that said it depends on cause of injury to how long/short term this will be. Hoping you get quick treatment! But in my experience cortisone (if done correctly works quickly within a day or two after the local wears off).
I had 3 shots already and it keeps coming back. the worst thing about this fking doctors is they don't let you give another option to do a permanent fix, they only say that's the only way. it's just masking the pain.
I’ve had a few acupuncture treatments and they helped tremendously. You have to stick with the treatments and realize it’s not an overnight healing miracle process. I’d definitely give it a try.
I did dry needling for my back problems. It's crazy, it hurts but it helped me out tremendously. It's not like overwhelming pain, it definitely sucks but it was worth not having to do surgery. EDIT: forgot to say I would also definitely, 1,000% recommend it to anyone suffering any kind of muscle or joint pain. I had a ripped lower back, SI joint, pirformis and hamstring. I would get about 2 needles for each one, I think I did 14 sessions or so...seriously, it saved me from surgeries.
True, I mean it depends on the area and the treatment plan. In my case it was slight herniation (no surgery option since it's so small), took a few treatments to get the exact spot w/ cortisone then worked hard on physical therapy, seems to be going well, but unless you have a specific injury that by reducing the swelling it'll actually heal the area (so not bone on bone etc.) then the shots will just mask (like you said) and only last certain period before it's time to pay the doctor again. Unfortunately that's all this does, helps inflammation to allow healing (if possible), reduces pain, and get better PT results (assuming it's possible). The good news is... That soon there might be an actual treatment for knee cartridge sufferers being tested/trialed that can actually fix low to possibly even no cartridge in the knees. It's coming so cortisone might be worth using to avoid a knee replacement and hold off another few years (for people w/ bad knees). Because what sucks is if you get a knee replacement too young, then you might need a 2nd one later on. This new treatment could be a real success and rumor is Insurance might actually cover it since it's looking promising in trials maybe 5-10 years knee replacement will be a thing of the past.
If it's about chronic pain and only that, a TENS machine might alleviate that. Amazon sometimes run a deal for 30% off for products like it Don't use if you have heart problems
