Giles has plenty of confidence. He just does not have the talent to back it up. Straight flat upper 90's meatballs. How unique. He will break a slider off here and there, but he thinks he can blow it past batters. He can't. Yea. He did pretty good numbers wise in the regular season last year but I remember a lot of his outs being LOUD LONG fly balls. Yea. Maybe an out, but shows he fools no one.
I think it was more for rhetorical use with Giles in the manager's office. If Hinch has to officially inform Giles he is no longer the closer, at least Giles won't be able to say he didn't get his chances to show he deserves the job.
The other hard thing to do is give up 3 leadoff doubles in a game and not allow any of those runners to score. Somehow, Cole+Giles+Devo pulled that off tonight.
If Marisnick or Fisher come up tonight, they need to bunt. Those guys hve been strikeout machines and they have the speed to leg out a bunt.
Well at least the Astros only K'd 7 times today in the first 9 innings. That is about their 2017 season average. Gattis is looking very replaceable as a DH these days.
I’ve been watching a good chunk of this game and can only name one of their players off the top of my head. Our AA team probably would have won this one already. But that’s baseball.
