For some reason his squat down before delivering the pitch gets the batter in a rhythm to hit his pitch. He is the closer and will have to trust he will do well this season.

I’m sure advanced metrics will make me feel better

He’s given up at least one run in 7 of his last 9 appearances. That’s not a closer. It’s an opener. He’d be a tremendous opener. Or maybe just a guy who likes to keep things ajar. Slightly. Before calmly removing alol hinges.

Giles at the beginning of his 3rd year here just hasn't worked out. He can't be used in closed games at this point imo. Pretty much closer by committee.

My hottest of hot takes is McCullers should be closing. But I know Lance hates that idea. And I love Lance. So I’m conflicted.

Yeah if McCullers can't stay healthy again this year, moving him to that role wouldn't be a bad idea. I'm rooting for him to work out as a starter though.

He's going from a one pitch pitcher to a no pitch pitcher.

So I guess Giles is going to get thrown out there no matter how bad he is. Unreal. He must have some serious dirt on hinch!

If you just take out this batter & this part of the inning, he actually wasn't that bad.

    :D:rolleyes:

"There seemed to be one little mistake here and there that kind of creates havoc for him in the inning," Hinch said. "The base hit to center, Hosmer legs it out for a double, and instead of the inning ending on the next hitter, even like a medium-mistake breaking ball, guy hits it into left field and he ends up having a run against him and sends him home frustrated."

Giles got just two swings and misses on 17 total pitches.

Giles has now allowed a run in two of his first three appearances. He did not pitch in the only save situation the team's had — Brad Peacock instead finished out Sunday's 3-2 win — after which Hinch said that decision was "not an indictment" on Giles.

"Certainly wanted to keep that game 3-1," Hinch said Friday. "He hadn't pitched in four days. But his fastball was good, I thought he threw some really good breaking balls, it was just a night where he gave up a run."

Stay calm... Wasn't a save situation;)

Giles has been suspect since his first outing, Opening Day '16 @ Yankee Stadium.

Make or break year... Astros would non-tender him at this rate. Needs to be better or risks losing millions.
