I think he thinks that he should be more of a star and would be somewhere else. Jordan Brand offered him $20 million for five years and he rejected it. That's less than Lillard makes with Adidas. Then, his quad rehab with the Spur's training staff went wrong. On the first point, Jordan Brand low-balled him, but who can blame them? All-NBA game with reserve personality probably doesn't sell many shoes. The second is tough, only he knows what kind of condition the Spur's doctors cleared him to play with.
I agree. The Spurs made Kawhi. Would he have been a good player in the league without them? Most likely yes. Would he have been a Top 5 player, when healthy, without them? I highly doubt it.
Kawhi views that Jordan Brand offer as disrespectful, but he’s just not that marketable right now. He can’t get Curry or Harden endorsement money when the majority of people don’t even know what his voice sounds like. He has shown zero personality or interesting traits that would make people gravitate towards him. The younger demographic isn’t thinking about Kawhi.
It's because spurs players are seen as one unit. you don't really see them as individual stars. they are not as marketable compared to curry, lebron, harden, durant.
Someone has clearly managed to convince Kawhi that San Antonio is the reason he isn't marketable. That it has nothing to do with his absolute lack of any personality or highlights.
This is true. But big media market teams like LA, Boston, or NY would fix that in a jiffy. If you play for the market, you become marketable.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...ss-against-warriors-playoff-opener/517797002/ [...] Consider the Los Angeles Clippers one of the many teams keeping tabs on the situation. The Clippers are planning a trade package if Leonard ultimately becomes available, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. Landing Leonard – who grew up outside of Los Angeles in Moreno Valley, hails from San Diego State and is known to be a favorite of Clippers consultant Jerry West – would be well worth the hefty price it would take to get him. Maybe the Clippers offer their two first-round picks in this June’s draft, and whatever combination of other talent the Spurs want in return. And suddenly, they’re back in Western Conference contention again.
If SA can't get a good deal for Kawhi they should hold him hostage . If he's not gonna play next year after being cleared , then start fining his ass . Kawhi has already done a great job tanking his value . I doubt bos ( if the rumors are true ) would want to give up both Tatum and brown etc
