It's his size and his skillset in the low post. The Warriors are one of the loudest teams (along with Rockets) when it comes to expounding on the inefficiencies of low post offense. However....what they don't say, and one of the key secrets to their success, is that there are some players that are ultra efficient in the low post. And Draymond is one of the very best (if not the very best) low post players in the world. He's a great decision maker. He knows how to pass down there. He's throwing it out to great shooters when he's down there. And he knows how to take bigger defenders and smaller defenders down there. I have NEVER seen any matchup in the low post that Draymond didn't dominate......including LeBron. That's why I say I don't know. That matchup is an unknown. We've not seen it. But if we get the Warriors in the playoffs, we'e going to see Draymond at the 5......a lot! I can only hope that PJ, or Luc, or even Capela can contain him, water down his efficiency in the low post, then take him out of the defensive paint when we're running our stuff. Draymond in the Warriors small ball lineup is our primary impediment to a championship.
I was calling for PJ or Luc with the starters with Anderson to the bench long before the trade deadline. But I knew it wouldn't happen as long as we were trying to trade Anderson. I still don't see a place in our rotation for major Anderson minutes. I think he should be a "spotter", simply a guy you throw out there to hit some open shots when everybody else is clanking. In the playoffs I fully expect to see Harden, Paul, and Gordon together on the perimeter for major minutes with PJ, Luc, Ariza, and Capela rotating around the 4/5 minutes. Hopefully we have the answer to the Warriors small ball lineup there.......or else hopefully Warriors are dinged and we steal a championship without them at their best.
he didn't say that, he said he is one of the best he has ever seen......Now D'Antoni isn't a good defensive coach, so his judgement on good defensive players is sceptical
So according to Kingkingston, not only are we overrating PJ, but the Rockets head coach is apparently doing the same thing. If we could all be as smart as you..
Building trade value and/or guage the trade market by the deadline took top priority. Now the Rockets know the going rate on Ryan Anderson with current salary status. This plays out in the summer prior to Free Agency and after the June 21st draft when the Rockets can then include 18/19 first rd pick (17/18 1st rd pk involved x CP3). So the 2019 first rd pick + Ryan (and other picks) minus this season of salary for Ryan allows Rockets to judge the best deal this summer. Reports had one team wanting two 1st rounders to accept Ryan last summer.... now less salary due. I know you are aware of this; just putting this down for the benefit of others. I’m ok with PJ Tucker or Luc MaM going against Draymond at PF; so I don’t have much of an issue of them sliding over to Center when Draymond slides over to Center. GSW get away with it by playing smart defense. Help defenders in the form of guys approx 6’8” helping coral the bigger big. Rockets lead by Bzdelik and multiple wings around that size also allows Houston to do much the same. I also thought Draymond was good in the post until I started checking his numbers earlier this year. According to: http://stats.nba.com/players/playtype-post-up/?Season=2017-18&SeasonType=Regular Season Draymond in post ups (17/18): 7.2%, frequency, 0.65 ppp, 13.3 NBA percentile Draymond in post ups (16/17): 7.5%, frequency, 0.64 ppp, 9.5 NBA percentile Tucker probably won’t be used in Post Ups; but Joe Johnson will be sparingly: Joe Johnson in post ups (17/18 Houston): 19.7% frequency, 1.00 ppp, 82.9 NBA percentile. When all else fails Ryan Anderson in the post: Ryan Anderson (17/18): 3.1% frequency, 1.13 ppp, 97.2 NBA percentile If the Rockets win the title and Ryan plays well, the Rockets would then consider keeping Ryan (entire team intact). Of course the Rockets need to win the title first before discussions of keeping him.
of course you are over rating him, he is not as good as Draymond Green and that is a fact. it is not uncommon for this place to over rate players, it happens quite a bit and this place also changes their minds so often and quick. Only a couple of months ago, people here were getting stuck in to Tucker and hated that her was on the team.............now he gets some form going, he suddenly is somehow as good as Green....laughable
Draymond Green isn't the player you think he is. Yes he's done some amazing things. But he plays in a system where he doesn't have that much responsibility as far as scoring. He's probably better than PJ at playmaking & passing. But the PJ's a better shooter & I think slightly better defensively. I think ppl overrate Draymond because his over dramatic personality & tough guy persona. PJ's quiet persona but he's just as effective than Draymond
Yeah. Those numbers are off. They do not reflect what Green does when he receives the ball on the move into the low post. They do not reflect his passing after drawing help. He forces the defense to collapse. Those numbers do not reflect his low post possessions.
ok fair enough, i will take the guy who is better defensively, a better scorer, rebounder, passer.......that seems fair
so does PJ but you can't have PJ as the guy who makes plays for everyone with his passing and scoring. PJ has always been a one pent guy, he does the little things but he can't jump, he isn't a great scorer or rebounder or passer, but he will fight for the team defensively. Draymond showed without the big 3 that he could score if needed
i'm Rockets through and through.......i just don't over rate our players to some crazy lengths that some fans here do
how about our Jordan ? if we are going to go the whole way, might as well call him as good as MJ The numbers stack up..........................................................................
That may be true (and is true) but people also overrate the Warriors as individual players. Fans from everywhere do it.
I don't over rate Green, i know what he is good at and what he isn't good at. He is the glue that holds the Warriors together defensively and you can run the offence through him because he is a good passer. Sure he isn't a good outside shooter but inside he can score. If we could get PJ to pass like him out of the post off offensive rebounds or just in general, it would be great and if he can up his scoring to around 9ppg it would help. He has actually been better on the boards when he is coming off the bench but as a starter, he has Capela to grab the rebounds
Have PJ Tucker ever kicked anyone in the ball or grabbed their ball and try to stick a figure in some dude's ass and then lick his fingers in the dude's face to throw that player off his game? I didn't think so. There's only one Draymond
