if the league truly want to nerf harden, have all players shave their face clean after the 2018 season.

LOL. Sounded like he's personal friends with refs. I couldn't find the move on YouTube, but it would interesting to get a visual breakdown. I remember his gathering the ball high above his head while jumping, then taking two individual strides toward the basket. It looked innovative like Harden's step-back.

To be fair, the ref also says that in the NBA it's not called as a travel (I replied there, BTW-- I used to post on that board before joining this one).

90% of NBA players seem to be growing beards this season.

Step backs and Beards. Why isn't Harden #1 on that list ESPN is putting together for most influential players?

I just saw it. Good response. I posted it in a random thread that seemed relevant. I'm glad you ignored the random clutch trash talk.... Haha.

I make no bones about being a Blazers fan. I'll admit, I came to this site to troll, during the Melo / drexlerfan ****. But, I'm not a very good troll. Now, I like coming here and reading opinions from other basketball fans. It offers a different perspective. And I like that. I'm just a basketball fan. Cheers, my man.

Nope, I'm me. :) I used to post on justbball forum during the 2003-2007 time frame. It it got merged into SportsTwo, a lot of people left after the change, and I eventually shifted over to here for my Rockets/NBA talk. It looks like its mainly Blazer fans over there, now.

Yeah. Us Portland fans kind of took over that site. We all came from an old defunct board. We are now the official message board of the Trailblazers and get some pretty cool perks. Free box suite games, signed jerseys, etc. I know we are supposed to hate each other, but you guys have a pretty cool community here as well. I will always root for my team to beat you guys. Always. As you would too. But, one of us needs to take out Golden State this year. If it's not us, it might as well be you. I call dibs on knocking OKC out of the playoffs though. Deal?

Sounds good. Looks like you guys will likely be the 3 seed? Hope to see you in round 3. The Rockets and Blazers have had some nice postseason battles in the recent past.

3 seed is likely. It gets a little tenuous without Harkless and Ed Davis to close the regular season out. Injuries suck. A lot of opposing fans might think Ed and Moe are scrubs, but they are really important to how the team operates. I guess I'm more worried than a lot of other fans are. I certainly hope to see you guys in the playoffs. You guys have beaten us this year, and have the better squad. But you can't say that the games haven't been really close

Actually am, you play enough basketball competitively you get to know the refs. Btw here’s the video you couldn’t find:

It will be a good series if it comes to that. The Trailblazers easily could have won that last game if Dame an CJ were hitting their outside shots. And Nurkic will be tough to handle for Capela.

I like the way my team has played you guys. Even with the losses. Tough matchups all around though. If anything, it will be good playoff basketball.

wait, I thought all purist were arguing for 1 1/2 steps for everything, but have learned to embrace the 2 steps towards the basket, because dunks.

I played under 1 step in HS (we called it 1 1/2, since you could lift your pivot foot). And I thought it was 1 in NCAA's for awhile too. Could be wrong. 1 1/2 is actually the NBA rule when set, prior to dribbling.

anyhoo, you want 1 1/2 when not going to the basket, right?

If the ref/poster actually says McCollum's pivot foot was established as the right foot, then he also explained why he is wrong saying it is a travel. CJ gets two steps from the right pivot foot. That ref would also have to say Harden's step back on Wesley Johnson was a travel.

He'd also have to call Larry Bird's version of the Wesley Johnson is travel, too. Here for laughs

I wouldn't bother listening to him anymore, as some arbitrator of debates.

Good find. First Step is awfully close to the ground and looks much more legal than the OP. The main issue with LeBron's move might be it appears he's doing more due to the arm movement.

@heypartner That Bird step back is an obvious travel, even by today’s lax rules/enforcement. Look how many steps he took before dribbling the ball.

And the ref did say he believed 80% of Harden’s step backs are travels. Just not “NBA travels”. Not sure if he meant “NBA travel” derisively or just matter of factly.

lulz, you're saying its not a conspiracy by your definiton. well done.

I never changed my argument...and btw, it's the league's argument, not mine. But I am rather shocked you chose childlike logic techniques to pick it apart so incorrectly as to make it appear that I did...you were just playing dumb.

Here's the crux of my argument: I engaged you because you were first spouting that McCollum was palming and carrying the ball.

Explain, using the rules, why McCollum is carrying, please...finally. And also apply your interpretation to the cross-over dribbles, cut dribbles and inside-out dribbles wrt carrying.

yeah, it's a Kawhi travel before his first dribble. I was just showing regarding the Wesley Johnson move part. I can show 3 more Bird step backs that they POR fan ref would have to call travel's too, based upon his idea that you aren't allowed 2 steps.

I'm only interested in the NBA. Obviously, Harden isn't traveling, or the L2M would have mentioned it by now. I don't know if 2 steps is NCAA/FIBA rules or not.

I don't study the rule book. So I am here to learn too. My understanding is, the so-called 1 1/2 steps is actually 2 steps. The "half step" is the last step when you go up on one foot. Some people call it 2 steps because you are allowed to change landing foot two times after gather.

What I'm arguing is that the steps allowed at the end of a drive is a special rule for carrying your momentum, not the same as changing pivot foot for other kinds of footwork.

Nothing to do with his arms. From the rule book: “A player that stops the dribble in the air and lands on both feet simultaneously, that player may establish a pivot foot. However, if the dribble ends with one foot still on the floor, then a traveling violation would occur if a player lifted a foot and returned the foot to the floor.”
