Saints just signed Ben Watson , so another tight end off the board... I really dont know what the Texans are doing.. They need a TE bad,.......
I said it before and I'll say it again! I will not spend one dime on that franchise on Kirby until they have a clear vision on winning! It appeared they start off in FA with a clear vision, then all of a sudden they take a turn. I still don't get signing Brandon Weeden!!! Haven't they learned anything from the past??? What's the definition of keep doing the same things over and over but expecting a different result.....THE TEXAN'S FRONT OFFICE. It showed last year, if Watson gets hurt the season is over. Unless they have a plan to trade up and get Lamar Jackson this is the dumbest move ever OR just the Texan's front office being themselves, so why are we expecting anything different.
Give Clowney a big extension with a large guarantee in year 1 and go into next offseason with (hopefully) a franchise QB on a rookie contract, a large amount of cap space (maybe more depending on how JJ performs in 2018), your first round draft pick, and two second round picks to fill in the holes.
Not defending the Texans org, because the McNair's are cheap. But if DW4 gets hurt again or doesn't comeback close to what he was before his injury the season is over regardless of who the Texans org brings in.
The Philadelphia Eagles beg to differ! Organizations who plan better, gets better results. I think RG3 can do better, I think Blane Gabert could've done better, I think Kaep can do waaay better (But I know that's not going to happen). But my point is try something different, rather than going with someone you know that is not going to carry you, if your #1 goes down.
The Texans talent level is worlds away from the Texans. The fact that you think Gabbaert is better tells me all I need to know. This just in: They both suck. You could sign Foles (I know he's under contract) and if Watson gets hurt the Texans will still suck. They need a talent upgrade bad and decided to sit on their cap space, I know they made a few mid level signings and got guys on the cheap. I hope the McNairs choke on that money.
Speaking of the Eagles, i'm sure no one in their fan base was excited about Nick Foles. But they brought him in because of familiarity with the coaching staff. No doubt this is the reason the Texans are bringing Weeden. They know him and have had relative success with him. If he has to start a game, they know what to do to get him ready.
Who else would you want them to sign? There's not exactly an impressive group of FA QB's out there. And there's absolutely no way they need to be trading up to get Lamar Jackson. The VAST MAJORITY of teams with franchise QB's don't have backup QB's that would come right in without missing a beat. Green Bay? No. Detroit? No. New Orleans? No. Seattle? No. Minnesota? No. Pittsburgh? No. The only teams that have/had viable backup options for their Franchise QB's are New England (when they had Jimmy G) and Philly. Last I checked, having a backup QB like Jimmy G is absolutely the exception and not the norm. Same with Philly and Nick Foles. I don't think Weeden is 100% the ideal backup for Watson but he knows the system and that has to count for something. I understand wanting to have a viable backup option behind Watson, but the fact of the matter is that very few teams have backup options who could legitimately keep their team going at a high level. Also, I would assume that the Texans will be drafting a QB next year when they have a full arsenal of picks. They'll be able to pick the guy they want and they'll be able to develop him as a viable backup option to Watson. But to think that they can just magically find a really good backup QB without any early draft picks and with pressing needs that they had like OL and secondary is plain foolish.
There's a good chance that a lot of their cap space will be going toward a JD Clowney contract extension.
Wouldn't we have more Cap Space if he agrees to contract Extension? Not sure how it works but wouldn't alot be signing bonus?
I'll give you that. Weeden has familiarity with the Texans but has he had success, similar to Foles? Foles had a career year with Philly. And why would the Texans chose Savage over Weeden last yr, If they felt that good about Weeden? This is another dumb retread move. Rather than reviewing what happened last year and looking to avoid the pitfalls of last year, you go right back down the same road. I'd rather go for RG3 or look for someone who can run the system, similar to DW4
