I’ll be surprised to see him traded. He had a bad/injures season last year and hasn’t looked all that great this spring. He’s not at market value but he’s also not on a minimum deal. Given what other comparable pitchers (Lynn, Cobb) got in free agency, I have a hard time seeing a team being willing to give up enough for McHugh to make it worth Houston’s while. McHugh is a good clubhouse guy who will do his job in the pen and he ready as the 7th SP. If they move him it needs to be for a meaningful return.
SF is a t SF is a tough trading partner because they don't have a lot of obvious players who would benefit the Astros. Posey is probably the best player on that team but would be too expensive to trade for, and McHugh would become but a minor piece in such a trade. Maybe, two years of McHugh is close to being worth the three years that Mark Melancon has left on his contract. That would make it easy on the roster moves as it's just one reliever swapped for another on the 25-man. However, Melancon struggled last year and in spring training he's looked only average. I wonder if the A's have inquired about McHugh since Cotton had to go on the DL. If they would be willing to deal Blake Treinen, that could work. The Astros have the farm system depth to add a piece or two to go along with McHugh for such a deal. Oakland would get 2 years or about 250 innings of McHugh (conservatively) and the Astros would get 200 innings or so of Treinen over 3 years. Treinen hasn't shown any obvious problems in ST.
Astros would be looking for a prospect. Prospect could be kept or dealt prior to the trade deadline. Astros are low on prospects that are good enough to be traded for something good without needing a breakout first half, but not quite so good that Astros won't trade them. Though a deal this close to season is unlikely.
Realmuto is hurt. But maybe this as a hypothetical: Astros get: C JT Realmuto C Aramis Garcia LHP Andrew Suarez Giants get: SP Collin McHugh Marlins get: OF Derek Fisher SP Francis Martes IF CJ Hinojosa (from Giants) C Max Stassi PTBNL (from Giants) Davis, Kemp, White, and Reed would compete to replace Fisher in LF (if Reed or White won, Gurriel and Marwin would move around to make it work).
Still on the fascination train with Realmuto, huh? Not happening till earliest next year (because we don't need a catcher at this moment...)
One problem with that line of thinking. It didn't happen that way. They came back home down 3-2 to the Yankees and the holy phenoms of Springer, Altuve and Alejandro all said they turned to Beltran. There is no scientific evidence for us but for those 3, they believed in Beltran. Sometimes you just have to let go of rational thinking and believe. What you wrote is taking beltran out of the equation therefore completely destroying the space time continuum! any little change and the championship disappears. I googled correa and his pics are already fading. Oh and I wasn't down with the signing thought it was too expensive too.
Wow...2 days. This was the fastest offseason ever.....I guess because I repeatedly watched highlight clips of the WS run.
Not sure what thread the old Singleton contract was mentioned in so I'll just throw this here: http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...ects-30-million-contract-offer-atlanta-braves
There had to be some Altuve like team options included in there. Almost no reason for a prospect to turn down a guaranteed 30 million for 5/6 years.
One reason may be that that contract would cover the new collective bargaining agreement. His agent may be thinking there will be some drastic changes.
Only quasi Astro related, but I got some good LOLs out of the article. https://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2018/3/27/17168512/2018-mlb-season-predictions-windows-analysis
