Russell Westbrook beats out James Harden for 2016-17 NBA MVP

I've been getting quoted a lot for this. For the record I don't think Kawhi is better, that was a while back. That game mattered and it wasn't the fact he played bad...it was how bad. I support harden relentlessly outside of this forum. This postseason is his last chance in the eyes of everybody. The criticism is largly unfair, he has never had help or been favored. Lets see and hope he can silence the haters.

Westbrook is the better player, but wouldn't be with this team as constructed. Harden and Ariza were able to land us Paul, which changed the landscape of the NBA. I wasn't convinced initially that this marriage would work having 2 ball dominant guards, ala Ty Lawson. But, the chemistry on this team is ridiculously good and I wouldn't break that up for Westbrook currently. I will add that Harden's game will probably age better too as he relies less on athleticism and more on deception than Westbrook. For the record, I also believe that LeBron and KD are better than Harden as well. Harden has had the best regular season this year though and hands down deserves the MVP.

 

I still stand by my opinion, albeit in a vacuum now after seeing how this team is clicking. The Harden-Paul marriage worked to my surprise, even watching the summer league I was very sceptical. Looks like Paul has been a huge influence on Harden and has taken his game to the next level, especially allowing some of the play making pressure taken off of him. Good for him and good for the Rockets. I believe there's only 3 players in the league better than Harden, LeBron, KD, and Westbrook. But, Harden has undoubtedly had the best regular season and deserves the MVP. Let's watch these playoffs unfold now...

 

As of the year 2018, there is pretty much zero evidence that Westbrook is a better basketball player than James Harden or makes his team more successful than James Harden.

Meh, he was playing with 3 other All-stars. Had he lost to the Cavs instead, KD would still be the 2nd best player in the league IMO.
