@DreamShook is on to the game

The media sort of reluctantly realizes harden will win it so now they are throwing out qualifiers about him still not being the best player, about it being his turn because he finished as runner up before, about it not mattering because playoffs, etc.

They just can’t say he’s the best. They won’t say it.

Did they call Westbrook, Rose, Nash, Durant, or Karl Malone the best player ?

Harden is the best player in the league this year, not lebron.

It amazes me how many people still talk about FG% in isolation like it means anything... Yes, Lebron's FG% is amazing, but his actual overall efficiency isn't any better than Harden's as a result of 3-pt shooting and Harden's ability to get (and make) FTs.

    To quote myself...

This is the difference. There needn’t be a qualifier for harden. It’s not that he’s be mvp because no one else stepped up, or that his team has been so bad when he’s injured, or that someone else has won it so many times there is fatigue, or that maybe he’s not the best player but he’s on the best team, or that there’s a player that’s better that the media hates, etc.

No. James Harden is the best player in the nba this year. Period. No qualification needed.

Sounds more like you're splitting hairs and want to be mad.

Yeah... out of all those players I asked, Harden is the only one who was better than the universal best player in the league during said season.

Here is my gripe: They can't let Harden be the MVP without mitigating his accomplishments with a, "but Lebron has been the best player for the last 5 years".

When Steph was the clear unanimous MVP, and when Westbrook was stealing the award from Harden, we didn't hear the end of it. During those campaigns, there wasn't this whole, "Lebron should be the MVP every year" garbage; MVP was the focus.

Now that Harden is the clear MVP, with no other competitors, it's become an excuse to not talk about Harden and this season at all.

The side by side highlights of last night's Cavs/Nets and Rockets/Hawks and the subsequent talk in the media after the game is a perfect microcosm of the conversation this year:
    • Lebron puts up numbers against a trash team and the highlights were cut in a way like Lebron was accomplishing something amazing. They make it a point to say he has scored 2000 pts in a season for the 10th time; mention that only 2 other NBA players have accomplished the feat. He is a top 10 nominee. Next day the Media talk about Lebron's Nets game and wonder if he has a chance to unseat Harden. (Everyone agrees he doesn't, but that's not the point.)
    • Rockets Highlights are next. They say Harden is the clear MVP front runner and show a couple highlights of Harden. They don't show the same usual enthusiasm for his triple double that he gets in 3 qtrs; only mentioning it when the box score flashes at the end. There is no mention of the 2000 pts 500 asts in four consecutive seasons accomplished by only 3 other players in NBA history. There are no highlights of his 15 asts. No place in the top 10 despite spectacular passes. This game is treated like another game against a trash opponent. The next day, no one cares.

Said it last year and was dead wrong, but I’ll say it this year again with confidence: If Harden is not the MVP this year, he’ll never win the award.

He’s been the best player all year long in the West which also has a historically stacked team in GS.

Harden will be the 2018 MVP.

Yes Harden is the MVP, but will anybody point out the elephant in the room? This wouldn't be happening if Harden wasn't shooting freakin' 28% from the three-point line in March. This is beyond terrible who takes more than 10 threes a game. There was not a single chatter about LeBron after the Portland game, but since then, the narrative has changed a little bit. This is why I always complain about Harden's performance in the game threads, because I know how fickle the media is, and it's really annoying Harden always flames out towards the end of the season (including the playoffs) which completely ruins the narrative no matter how great of a regular season he had overall, and can't even maintain his AVERAGE performance to seal the deal.
