When something like this is being done I think it's called for. But overall hell yes but it's likely being done anyway..
You're talking about like unarmed Predator drones circling a city? I'm legally allowed to shoot down any little drone that comes over my property without permission. Never had to test that law yet, but I wouldn't mind trying.
it also has access trails to the barton creek greebelt, which is why i keep thinking this is someone on a bike instead of a car. with traffic cameras it would be difficult to get in that neighborhood undetected. on a bike you could just come up the greenbelt trail directly into the neighborhood, set up the bomb and get out without being seen.
Random guy with backpack? My brother from another mother used to live right there off SW Parkway. I've hiked and explored all around that area. They moved to Westlake, but, I still drive the Parkway whenever I go to south austin, so this hits close to home.
I dunno. Seems like something anyone who is reasonably intelligent can learn how to do via the anarchist cookbook or finding instructions online. Also his trip wire bombs seem to be more sophisticated than his first ones, so he seems to be learning as he goes.
This sounds a lot like the yahoo who was dropping rocks off of the 35 overpasses onto traffic. They caught him eventually. And East Austin is not the same, at all.
...after 2 years. I got my nest doorbell camera up and running and am going to mount the house cameras soon.
Have authorities said they are absolutely sure it's one bomber or one group? I know that would be tidy and hopefully there's one perp, but seems like we don't know enough to say that yet.
No. They don't know any specifics quite yet. That was my guestimation, sorry if I confused anyone. Yes. Not sure about within city limits, which is not my purview anyway.
I don't know about that. Drones are covered under the same FAA rules that govern airplanes and for all intents and purposes are planes. And the problem is that we have laws that specifically prohibit the interference of operating an aircraft as well as the destruction of an aircraft. Now courts haven't settled the question of whether a drone is an aircraft but the FAA has said that they are. Either we need courts to clarify that drones aren't covered or Congress needs to settle this question.
They said the IEDs share enough similarities in build structure to believe its the same suspect(s). Specifics aren't released because the public doesn't need to know and don't want to risk copycats.
I know, I'm just talking **** as usual. Here's the last I've heard on the subject: https://agrilife.org/texasaglaw/2016/01/19/drones-privacy-part-potential-common-law-claims/ The Aggie Summary: "Shooting down a drone flying over a person’s property is not a good idea." Sure sounded good, though. If I can hit a whitewing, I can hit a drone.
This has my wife freaking out now. An amazon box was dropped off at the house, but not by UPS or USPS, just an unmarked car. Literally got a "should I call the police" and "what if its a bomb box" text message. We have a front door camera, but for whatever reason when they rung the doorbell, it didn't alert me or her. Typically it at least lets you see the saved video, so I need to call on that.
