    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...s-attacking-u-s-power-grid-aviation-fbi-warns

Russian hackers are conducting a broad assault on the U.S. electric grid, water processing plants, air transportation facilities and other targets in rolling attacks on some of the country’s most sensitive infrastructure, U.S. government officials said Thursday.

The announcement was the first official confirmation that Russian hackers have taken aim at facilities on which hundreds of millions of Americans depend for basic services. Bloomberg News reported in July that Russian hackers had breached more than a dozen power plants in seven states, an aggressive campaign that has since expanded to dozens of states, according to a person familiar with the investigation.

the cynic in me says that this latest development,

along w Mueller's indictment of Russians meddling w our 2016 Presidential election and
the Russians using military grade nerve gas to attack UK citizens,
prompted the Trump administration to finally issue sanctions on Russian citizens and entities. https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/sm0312

The worst part isn't that the Russians are attacking us, the worst part is that Trump is doing ZERO TO PROTECT US

Jeebus H Christmas: wouldn't it be great to have some strong, intelligent national leadership right about now?

What exactly do you want Trump to do? This has been a problem for a couple decades now. If you're going to blame a president, this would be Obamas fault. But his has nothing to do with who is in office. Its our crappy bureaucratic system that liberals love to defend.

    Your trump obsession is ridiculous.

I would expect Trump to follow through on sanctions. Let Russia know that attacking us doesn't come without consequences. I would expect Trump to not kiss Putin's ass and let him get away with this stuff.

Why blame Obama? He actually followed through with sanctions and took actions against Putin.

My obsession isn't with Trump, it's about protecting the United States.

@Space Ghost , how do you feel about Tillerson and McMaster being tossed? Feel better or worse about the administration and our safety in general?

I feel like two of the only adults w spines have been removed from the important conversations around 45. If I were Putin, it would look like a great time to push the envelope.

Protecting the United States? Take some time and research the cyber warfare game theory.

Explain to me how sanctions against Russia is going to stop China, N Korea, Iran and other rouge actors attacking our cyber infrastructure.

You have no desire to fix the root of any of these issues. You're more fixated on finding reasons to attack Trump than address real issues that will still exist once Trump is long gone.

Why are you acting like he was proposing Russian sanctions to stop China, N Korea, and Iran? The thread title is
"Russian Hackers Attacking U.S. Power Grid and Aviation, FBI Warns."

I don't have a positive opinion on Trump. I dont think it matters who Trump tosses because Trump is going to do what Trump wants. I think Trump surrounds himself with people who reinforces his belief and discards them when they stand up to him.

Where my opinion of Trump differs than the rabid left is that I dont believe Trump is this out of control dictator. I dont think he's he's conspiring with Putin. I don't think he's trying to tear down America. I believe he is incompetent as a politician, but I don't think he is some bumbling fool who is going to start launching nukes because a foreign power disagrees with him. I do think his "I'll do what I want" mentality is very counterproductive for this nation. In the end, there is only so much a president can do.

On topic with this thread, its completely stupid to bring up our vulnerabilities in our infrastructure, ignore these vulnerabilities, and instead use it as a reason to attack someone. If someone thinks sanctions against Russia is necessary, at least start a discussion on the bigger issue at hand. It seems almost all political discussions end up like this. Rage and punish the effect and completely ignore the cause.

Our cyber infrastructure has been vulnerable. Are you suggesting that China, N Korea and Iran have not been been engaging in cyber attacks? Or are you that naive.

The left hasnt been calling for more sanctions against China and Iran. Maybe because there is no way to tie it to Trump. That and the reality is our power grid is incredibly difficult to disrupt in the first place.

I'm suggesting the thread is about Russia, the poster was talking about sanctions against Russia, and your response was that Russian sanctions are going to do nothing to stop China, N Korea, and Iran. I'm sure that's true. But maybe they'll have an impact on Russia. You know, the country the thread is about?

Sure, showing that if people attack the United States there are consequences would be a deterrent. That is a minimum. But it isn't just the sanctions, it would be taking any action at all. Trump isn't.
