Can you not advance the ball with a timeout in the NCAA? Glad UH got that out in the conference tournament rather than the real thing.
The offense got a little stagnant. Ball movement. Cincinnati had a lot to do with it, but they slowed it down to much.
Gave the game away. Hope they quickly forget about that last 30 seconds. Thankfully they find out their tournament opponent in like forty minutes and can focus on that.
6th seed, Thursday vs (11) San Diego State. Should they advance, they get the Michigan/Montana winner.
I don't mind that we dropped the game today. Cincy is a good team, and UH has responded really well to losses. The goal here is to win some games in the tournament, and I think the loss today will keep them focused and hungry.
I get it that the Big Dance wins are a major goal but letting that game slip away was be to me a big deal. If they hold on and win that trophy vs Cinny they have a battle tested win to draw confidence from and hardware for life. I doubt winning the AAC makes a difference on beating San Diego State but maybe if UH faces Michigan and the are up by 4 in the waning minutes they could draw on the experience of closing out yesterdays title game. Props to UH, Cinny is for real, they had them on the ropes.
losing can also be a learning experience to prepare them for what may happen in the tourney. In many cases you learn more from it actually. nobody expected UH to be this good this year. They're by far exceeding all expectations. UH has proven they're more than capable of competing with the likes of Cincy. There confidence isn't something that I'm worried about. This year has proven they have plenty of it. It's the actual big stage experience that's lacking and also size that UH is up against.
I agree with you whole heartily about learning lessons from failure. However it seems to me to many fans are saying something to the effect "Oh well we lost the Championship game no big deal we are still going to the Big Dance" I personally wanted to see UH celebrate with Jim Nance on that court, hoist that trophy over to Kelvin and then run into the dance with some we are ready for anyone attitude. Maybe with Kelvin there they don't need it but would have been nice.
wrd so did I. it would have been great for the program to bring a trophy back but UH is back to building something special. These guys are playing with chips on their shoulders much like the fball team did. The football program was great to experience being put back on the map. I hope the basketball program does the same and its looking good.
Sure, it sucks to lose the championship game like that. But now I know for sure that UH isn't going to take SDSU lightly or play like they are entitled to the success they have had this season. UH teams often have issues with beating teams they're supposed to beat (the Drexel loss this season is a good example). I want them to play with a sense of urgency, so maybe the loss to Cincy helps with that.
