"Addressing every day crime" has been done by both parties, all cities, for years now.

What should be done differently? What is your new plan?

Most guns in Chicago are coming from gun-nut Indiana. You see, in the US, you are allowed to cross state-lines very easily. I know this concept is hard for you red-staters to understand.

Well since 60% of homicides in Chicago involve a firearm that was traced from another nearby state where private sales aren't regulated while also understanding the fact that our state borders have no border security or customs agents, maybe we need a federal regulation that requires all sales including private sales to require a background check because state level gun regulations are pointless due to some lack of state border control .

It seems that Democrats address these far more than Republicans. Education is advocated far more by Democrats than Republicans. Providing aid to the impoverished in terms of a minimum wage increase, paid family leave, income inequality, access to polls and voting, healthcare, etc.

The Democrats address those underlying issues all the time and the issues are consistently opposed by Republicans.

The point is that you are talking about different things. Democrats can be in favor of helping out all of those underlying issues and also want stricter gun control. You seem to have thrown in the non-related Chicago/Illinois only gun laws for a reason that can't really be fathomed because as long as neighboring states sell firearms without the same restrictions, those laws aren't going to be all that effective and certainly not evidence of gun control not working.

Yes, and that is one way Democrats are addressing the crime problem in Chicago. I don't know what else that has to do with addressing underlying issues which Democrats address all the time.

 

This is a pretty common phenomenon.

Most guns (and drugs!) in urban areas end up there by way of rural areas.

Besides that, I don't really see how Democrats don't care about crime, considering that a high percentage of violent crimes are committed with guns.

The last large Crime Bill was passed by Bill Clinton, a Democrat.

As far as the Democrats not addressing the underlying issues, the Democrats are usually the part attacking poverty or wanting additional resources allocated to programs targeting poverty.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and yours is important; it just hasn't been articulated well in this thread.
