Joe seemed tentative tonight. I kept thinking that he was quicker than he's playing. Maybe he's just that slow now.
Sit him out. Green is not a 4, nor is he is a smart defender, but he showed good energy by blocking Lebron in the post. He can shoot better than Joe at this point, and dunk too. Give Joe minutes against the weaker clubs for now.
They might be undefeated with him but its not "because of him" .... its almost "in spite of him ." He should be closer to the end of the bench than the rotation.
These posters r pretty funny. Iso joe is da dude's nickname. How can a dude that's skilled in isolation not fit on the most reliant iso team in the nba? He can guard 1-4 And has plenty of bb iq, and experience. Granted gg, is a gud spark plug. Don't let your love for gg blind you towards jj usefulness to this team.
I want to give him some more time to adjust to the way we play, which is VERY different from the Utah Jazz. I feel really good whenever he is letting open threes go, and I think his defense and playmaking with the second unit can provide a whole lot of upside for this team.
I don’t see how he can “adjust” his lack of lateral quickness. Successful teams exploit mismatches. Any smart team will switch until they get Joe ISO’d on a guard and then just blow by him. Which is what happened last night. Our defense has been successful because Tucker, Luc, Gordon, Ariza, and Harden can switch 1-4 and either stay in front of their man or hold their own in the post. Joe is slower than Ryno it appears to me.
Joe Johnson has been in the league since 2001. No one has ever called him iso joe until the last year or so. Just because he has a nickname, doesn’t mean he’s good.
He can’t guard any of those positions anymore. The jazz are fighting for the playoffs and were prepared to cut him because they knew they couldn’t keep playing him anymore. He was the worst plus minus on the jazz, including bench guys. His defense is completely gone, his three point stroke isn’t back (pointed out that the whole one month that showed he was back was really two good games) and he can’t beat guys in iso consistently anymore. I’m fine having him on the team and letting him play when he has it, but Dantoni loves the guy and I’m afraid he’ll keep him as a regular
They ran a couple of plays for him. He was able to back his man deep into the paint a couple of times. He missed a short shot, and he made a nice pass to the outside. Too early to know if he's going to be able to contribute in the playoffs.
I’ve never heard that nickname until joe was way past his prime. The point is some people think he’s still a good player but he’s not. He’s washed up.
He's definitely lost a step, but I get the signing. Low risk and potentially moderate to high reward.
He shouldn't have replaced Green in the rotation. Or at best, both guys should get some burn and whoever is playing well stays in. Bad move by D'Antoni.
I agree he isn't winning games for us, but now is the time to get him used to our system and he hasn't cost us any games. I also agree that he should have a limited role. We need the depth and we need to get him familiar with his role. Gerald knows his role. I am a huge Gerald Green fan and I still think we need both of them.
I'm hoping having Ryno back will glue Iso Joe to the bench. I don't mind having out there for free throw situations. He may even give us the occasional brilliant game. He needs to be used as a situational player. Even Ryno gives us good defensive spurts. Joe isn't giving us much right now.
Joe's offense has not been consistent ..yet. He was never a great rebounder even in his prime but his D and court awareness is underrated. He may not be a great defender but he's so smart/ clever and he's a 4 that can switch out on almost any position without it being a complete mismatch. Ryno switches to 1-3 and it's a bloodbath.
If Green didn't get lost defensively so often then he would be the 9th man but he does and so the old grizzly vet is the 9th man. We could do a lot worse than having those two choices on any given night for the 9th and 10th man.
