I've strongly considered this theory, because sincerely there are no rational reason behind this unbelievable hatred

Who knows? Harden digs into a pretty deep bag of tricks in order to make opposing teams and players look stupid.

Maybe if Harden shaved his beard.

Maybe if Harden lightened his skin tone like they did to Nat King Cole on TV back in the 50's (Nat truly looked ghastly, as well as ghost-ly, as a result); someone once posted here that his friend/co-worker finds Harden too "ghetto" (see also: Racist, Rather).

Maybe if Harden rented Riley Curry for a press conference (probable comment by GSW GM at the time: "that should seal the deal!")

    Again, who f***ing knows?

Rockets being the best team is NOT an original idea...

All this is, is an exercise in confirmation bias.

Tons of these media people said it wouldn’t work with Chris and James and they’re holding onto every last straw of hope that they will eventually be proven right.

Anyone that tells you they can’t figure out why they don’t like someone had their mind made up for them by someone else. They never thought for themselves and were always just parroting other people’s takes in the first place.

same if he went to gsw, lakers, spurs, cavs, boston, knicks

Winning breeds hate. The two exceptions to this are the Jordan Bulls and these inexplicable Warriors. Everything they do on the court, the illegal screens, the showboating, the complicity in allowing Draymond’s Jerry Sloan nutpunching tactics, all of it should bring on widespread unabated hate.

But somehow the combination of Bay Area smugness, Curry’s little kid on the playground style of play (anyone can do this! The shots just need to go in), and their team’s relatively lighter skin (there I said it) have served as prophylaxis against criticism. We can’t complain about it now because they have ships behind their name. But we are Killmonger, poor hungry kids coming for that throne. Let’s go get it.

The Rockets are a bunch of flawed Mavericks.

The owner of the team is opinionated and loud mouthed, he didn’t make his money in finance or Silicon Valley. He sticks out.

The GM is non conventional and never played basketball or scouted at a high level. He is an MIT graduate that challenges convention and is highly opinionated.

The star player is perceived as flawed. He had issues with his former coach and side kick. He dated a Kardashian and there were pics of him at strip clubs and with escorts. Couple that with no one offering much to trade for him and he has a chip on his shoulder.

The head coach is also a maverick that was viewed as arrogant and embraced a system that people felt was a gimmick. He also has had some ugly episodes with Kobe and Carmelo.

At the end of the day a lot of people aren’t going to embrace the Rockets and underestimate them until they win a title.

Man are you guys in denial or what...

For the last few years Harden has totally given off the aloof dgaf vibe...
stuff like "those that matter dont mind and those that mind dont matter..."
From the time of the Kardassian plague to Dwert friction to McFail interactions to dgaf defense... you guys really dont see why people outside of Rockets fans dislike Harden? Really? I'm not saying all the negativity was deserved - but at least some of it was...

I'm glad to see Harden appearing to have more fun these days and certainly looking like a guy that is enjoying being part of a team... I hope all the nonsense of the past stays in the past...

but to sit there and go "gee idk why people dont like Harden and the Rockets.."
give me a freaking break... own it already...

Once again, I think Harden is on a good path and doing a great job! But opinions have been formed over the last few years - dont expect them to change overnight...

So, from kardashians ruining our chemistry, to Dwight playing like an epic failure yet demanding the ball, to Mcfail being unfit to coach a girl scout basketball team...

You are part of the problem. Blaming Harden for Dwight, McFail, and Kardashian sucking at everything they do is honestly hilarious. If Harden wasn't around, Dwight would still suck, McHale would still be a terrible coach, and the Kardashians would still be parasites on society doing literally nothing of value.

Yet sure. Let's own up to the fact that Harden caused these issues, despite their being literally zero issues the second they leave.

    Lol.

Lol if harden was traded to steph in 15 or kd in 17 gsw will still win it all with harden as their best player and he'll be media and league darling

He's unfortunately stuck with the rockets not the other way around

People hate harden because of houston/rockets not the other way around

Just like harden was beloved in okc and cp3 was beloved in LA

Dwight is a proven franchise killer. No franchise wants anything to do with mchale. Stop blaming harden dof/mof.

And leave the kardashians and hardens off court life to tmz

Media seems to really love Kawhi. He is the most aloof player on the planet. Did I mention he has braids?

I player that DGAF wouldn't lead his team to the playoffs every year with a lot of those years having not so great talent.

The real denial is still not pretending to understand why some people harbor negative feelings towards Harden. It's not because of his aloof personality nor history with his teammates/coaches. Those are minor and obscure issues that casual fans outside of Houston are not even aware of. It's mostly due to how Harden plays the game. Many people feel Harden abuses the rules or manipulates the referees to receive foul calls.

Look at all the subtle jabs thrown at Harden this year. Did he travel? Did he push off? How many free throws is he getting? etc. etc. It's this aspect that turns some people off. Harden is very aware of the NBA rules, and does just about everything right before he enters the illegal territory. Not everyone knows about the gather step, so to an amateur it looks like a travel. Not everyone knows that Harden usually baits his defenders to reach and hit him in his arm, so they think Harden just flops his way to the free throw line.

If there are 10 cupcakes on the table, and the law of the land says it's illegal for a single person to take more than five of them, Harden is that person that always takes four and gets away with it. Every single time.

Is it wrong to do this? Not in my opinion. I would do the same to be honest. But some people really seem to not like this type of behavior. They think there is an unwritten rule that you need to obey, even though it's not strictly illegal, per se. Respect the spirit of the game, they say. Nope sorry, Harden does whatever it takes to win, and as long as it's within the rules, he will test the boundaries of what is acceptable.

I personally have no problem with this, and not just because I'm a Houston fan, but that's what most smart people do in real life.

The no.2 reason for the hatred is Harden's long-standing, terrible reputation on defense. This one is thankfully dying away, it seems.
