Lets not get blinded by regular season success. The rockets have a bad rep in the playoffs (although there’s news harden was concussed)

If things don’t go to plan in the postseason these threads will sting.

    It's a combination of:
    - lost to Blazers
    - performance against Clippers until Clippers completely crashed and burned. Rockets won the series, so shouldn't take flack for it, but could also see how it can be construed as underperforming
    - Last year against the Spurs. In my view, there's no maybe about it. Come out swinging, go up 1-0. Parker goes down. Kawhi goes down. That should be a series win
    - Harden's random wtf games
    - And this year, the CP3 "curse"

    The other side says:
    - Only 1 team wins every year, and only 2 teams make the Finals every year, so everyone is generally disappointed otherwise
    - Made it to the WCF
    - Played GSW very competitive G1 and G2 that year... with a crap roster.
    - For every crap Harden game he does have a bunch of great ones
    - Nene injury last year completely messed up their rotations. This is on MDA, and imo, MDA will be pretty critical in the post-season. I didn't understand then and don't still why he decided to insert EG into the starting lineup because Nene got hurt.
    - This team is simply better than any team they've had since the mid 90's, and at least regular season wise is so head and shoulders above every other team not named GSW in the West.... and if they lose to GSW in the WCFm it's not underachieving

They seem to be assuming the Rockets have inherited the playoff history of Chris Paul's teams now that he's on the team. So the failure of that Clippers team has become the Rockets' own failure no matter how contradictory that sounds, along with all the other playoff disappointments the Clippers had. But yeah, the only real issue with the Rockets in the playoffs is not that they disappoint but that they never seem to exceed expectations (except when they do, because it's not like the media expected them to even make the playoffs last year).

No we aren't, we recently came from being down 3-1 against the clips couple of years ago and went to the conference finals, we haven't had great of a success in the playoffs in the recent years but we are far off from being pathetic, so the guy can go and **** himself

I am enjoying it but last year was one of the worst feeling I have experienced being a sports fan period. All the expectations and for nothing. It’s easy for you guys in Houston but if your out of state everyone clowns on the rockets if they know your a fan.

That is a tempting counter-argument to make. There is a glaring problem with it, however, which is why I suspect Nick Wright didn't bring it up. We would have lost that series in game 6 if not for a stunning comeback during which the following players were on the floor for the Rockets in the 4th quarter: Corey Brewer, Josh Smith, Dwight Howard, Jason Terry, and Trevor Ariza. Obviously only Ariza remains on the roster. Harden was not on the floor and would have been flayed by the media for his performance that game, had the Rockets lost. Further, Chris Paul was on the opposing team -- the team that history has decided choked away that game and series. So the reputation of our two best players this year cannot in anyway be boosted by what transpired in that series.

Best argument, IMO, is simply that this is a new team with significantly more depth, talent, and experience. There's no purpose in looking backwards and trying to defend our playoff record.

Personally I think CP3 gets a bad rap for last season. Griffin went down with a bad toe and Paul did everything humanly possible to carry the Clips in that series.

If he plays like that in this postseason, we're going all the way.

our regular season usually matched our playoffs, we never really had crazy great regular season records any way dating back to the Yao Tmac days, we were constantly 4-5th seed in the west.

The best season we had in the past 15 years was the year when we were 2nd seed and went to the WCF. The only hiccup you could say was when we got owned by portland 2013-2014

Harden has few flaws. But one of them, maybe the worst, is that he doesn't tell you when he's too tired or messed up to play. He hides it well. He just wants to play. He's stoic.

Stoicism wins wars and campaigns and championships. But it can be dangerous. Harden goes into games when he shouldn't go in. He stays in games when he shouldn't stay. In one of Morey's recent podcast interviews, Morey said he still doesn't know what happened to James in that Spurs Game 5 and 6. That's crazy. By now Harden should have told his coach or his GM something. There should have been a conversation. Maybe McHale kept him out of Clippers game 6 because McHale happens to be good at reading players and what they won't say. I don't know. But for the good of the team, Harden needs to be more aware, and more candid, when he's not feeling right.

I remember getting dumped on right for defending you know what after Game 6. The board gets upset or cocky with the flip of a switch.

We just gotta win win win win.

This. Watching the ASG, I was thinking how much sleep he got the night before after partying the whole weekend. Some flashbacks of similar performances, and not necessarily from his partying.

My theory is that he sees the court too well and when a good opposing coach starts shutting down other players, he has to make that extra calculation on whether to feed the slumping player or take it all on his own. It's like all those simple reads become overwhelming, especially if the refs swallow their whistles.

In the past, who did he have to take off the load? 4th quarter Dwight? Jerry Lin??

Someone like Chris, who has had similar playoff pains and situations will let them see what's going on when they're not handling the ball. It'll be like "Oh that's what the other team is doing with me too. Clever..."
