Can't tell if you're being serious about Correa's HRs or not, but I wouldn't think it'll sap his power. Because the injury happened so early they have the luxury of delaying his return a little longer (they could even keep him out until late April/early May) if they determine that his power still isn't fully recovered.

Shouldn't they wait until game six to put him on the DL and let him serve his suspension? Or can one serve a suspension while on the DL?

I'm sure the MLB has some kind of rule prohibiting that from happening.

Perhaps, but they did allow the rule 5 guy picked from the Astros to accumulate time in the majors while he was on drug suspension which made it easier for the selecting team to keep him on the 25 man roster for the season.

To digress, now that's a bad rule. Both player and selecting team benefit.

Just googled. At least in 2015 one could serve suspension while on DL. I assume it's the same this season since it is most moment a collectively bargained thing.

Lol I wouldn't put it this eloquently but they both have proven to be good minor leaguers but have had 3 stints in the big leagues and have each hit below. 200. However, Tucker deserves a chance to succeed or fail and play left field while Marwin play 1st base.

So Yuli should miss the first two weeks of the regular season as a result of this, and he was already going to be required to miss the first week as a result of his suspension.

This does not appear to be that big of a deal.

I know that power outage is a longer-term problem for players who have the entire hamate bone removed (e.g. Derek Fisher), but I'm not knowledgeable on whether that applies to just removing the hook portion of the hamate bone. I won't be surprised if there's some power loss though.

Definitely disappointing though. It sucks to lose part of Yuli's still productive years to an injury like this.

Tyler White hit .217 in 2016 with an OPS of ..664. After retooling in the minors, he hit .263 in September with an OPS of .791, about 40 points above the AL average.

In 2017 he hit .279 with an OPS of .853, about 100 points above the AL average.

Tyler White has never hit below .200 for any extended period of time.

He'll definitely miss more than that. 6 weeks is just time for the hand to heal. He'll have to get his timing and strength back as well. I'm guessing it'll be more like 2-3 months before we see Yuli in full swing.

He's probably thinking of Tim Bogar. It's an easy mistake to make.

Does the DL time and suspension time overlap or would they wait until he is off the DL to officially suspend him?

I think technically the Astros could declare him ready to play 5 days earlier than he really is, and then have him serve the suspension in his final 5 rehab days. However, that would create a PR nightmare that the front office would definitely want to avoid. So, the better way to do it is to keep him on the DL through the few rehab games he might play at Corpus, then let him serve the suspension (honestly), and then activate him on the roster.

His replacement will probably be playing so well that nobody will feel there is a great rush to get Yuli back to MMP. It will be nice to have him back nonetheless.

This. It's honestly not a big concern - it's just five games. Hopefully at least one of White, Reed, and Davis sets himself apart while Yuli is out.
