Surprised there wasn't a thread on this movie, anybody else checking it out. Saw it last night, not an easily digestible film but if you liked The Arrival you'll probably enjoy this....
I heard there was some kind of white washing issue or something with the script. It looks interesting. Not sure I understand the comment "not easily digestible"... The arrival wasn't that confusing, imo...
I saw this last night and not really sure how to describe it, but its definitely worth a watch. I had a WTF come out once the movie ended. Also movie seemed fairly diverse to me *shrugs*
the books are really slow and take place a whole lot in the heads of the protagonists. The movie definitely look to have the "eye candy" angle down, but I don't know that there is a ton of meat there to pick through if they don't veer far from the book. The book is, basically, characters go into Are a X, characters die while wallowing in doubt and regret. The End. doesn't seem like a full film.
If you didn't care for "Arrival" much, then is this still an interesting film to watch? They seem to be mentioning the two are related in theme.
saw it last night. i haven't read the books. i've heard there is some differences but the overall feel is the same between book and movie. i thought it was alright. i thought it got slow in the middle...but the ending is pretty wild. dude who directed ex machina did this as well. worth a watch. early reviews are giving it high praise...i wasn't blown away but decent enough
I thought about picking up these books a while back. The reviews on Goodreads turned me off a little, and I never did.
How are you guys (@GRENDEL @Rocket River ) getting Arrival? From the trailer the tone looks pretty freaking far from arrival. looks like horror/action or sci-fi horror
Visually, it's pretty incredible, and I would have loved to spend more time in the world itself, delving further and further into the rabbit hole. It also is very much a cerebral and mysterious sci-fi, much like Arrival. Some disturbing elements and the end gets pretty weird. I left the theater scratching my head a bit, but in a good way.
saw this today. first time in history i have been to the theatre twice in one weekend. friday - black panther, sunday - annihilation. last year the only two times i went were to see wonder woman (both were dates lol). this was one interesting movie. the ending definitely makes you want to go home and read/research the crap out of it.
@Bandwagoner It's not exactly like The Arrival but I think there is a very similar thread in the film but mixed with other films like 2001, Alien, etc....
You guys are confusing me a little. The Arrival - 1996 SciFi horror (meh) Arrival - 2016 SciFi with no monsters and the climax is a phone call.
