It all depends on the definitions you use as to what a "mass shooting is" but instead of showing you cherry picked stats, how about I just give you a quote by the guy who ran the major studies into the ban? "In general we found, really, very, very little evidence, almost none, that gun violence was becoming any less lethal or any less injurious during this time frame. So on balance, we concluded that the ban had not had a discernible impact on gun crime during the years it was in effect." One of the main reasons why the assault weapons ban did absolutely nothing is that assault rifles are used in less than 2% of all crimes to begin with and all rifles combined kill something like 200-300 of the over 11000 people murdered every year. It's just not a significant source of gun crime or gun violence to begin with. It's just a "scary looking" gun that the anti-gun crowd have it out for.
Cherry picked from the guy in 1994 who conducted the studies of 10 year prior and during ban . In 2014, same guy says: Koper, Jan. 14: What we found in these studies was that the ban had mixed effects in reducing crimes with the banned weaponry due to various exemptions that were written into the law. And as a result, the ban did not appear to effect gun violence during the time it was in effect. But there is some evidence to suggest that it may have modestly reduced shootings had it been in effect for a longer period. Hence, the significance of the data of 10 years prior, during and AFTER the ban. Numbers will not lie.
quick rundown? I've been posting pictures on clutchfans I found on r/all and I simply don't have the time.
Nobody wants a teacher with a gun....... until a shooter shows up in their classroom. Having said that, I would probably not arm teachers. If we weren't going to add more school officers I would arm other staff like principals and maybe counselors with a gun in a safe in their offices. That way the guns aren't in the class rooms, but you have armed people that can respond in seconds instead of waiting for the cops. It would be a massive endeavor to find the right people and train them to a high enough standard. Even trained officers, for whatever reason, just sat outside. You are really throwing a prayer out there for teachers to be effective. What are the odds the shooter chooses a class with an armed teacher? I mean what percent of teachers would actually want to carry? The majority of teachers seem to be more left leaning and advocates of gun control. Not to mention... we expect an armed teacher to abandon his/her class room and the kids to shoot it out in a hallway when the teacher has a 9mm and the bad guy has an AR15? That's asking A LOT even for law enforcement. I would bet 90% of them that haven't been in combat would lock their door and sit and wait with their gun. That doesn't help the 4 other classes down the hall getting shot up with no armed teacher
...I think that's the way they used to do it... ...in Big Whiskey, Wyoming...roundabout eighteen-hunnerd and eighty-something.... ...ya'll know when...back when America was great an' all. #MAGA
Given that the cops don't step in and interfere with armed shooters why they are killing children, why would we expect a teacher to be a hero?
That's him explaining what I've been saying, that the ban had no real positive effects, but he's saying that it's possible that maybe it could have had some positive effects if it was in place for longer, maybe. For the record, though, that quote I gave wasn't from 1994, it was from 2013.
The cops sat outside because they had hand guns and the shooter had a high powered rifle. Let's arm teachers with AR 15s! They'll walk around classrooms with rifles strapped around their chests. MAGA!
It's pretty simple. If you're that teacher (with a hand gun) or the coward cop, you'd rather be facing a handgun than a high powered rifle. People like @Bobbythegreat are asking alot from teachers. Why don't we give you a 9mm to take down a psycho mass shooter with an AR 15. Unless you're willing to do it, don't advocate for others to do it and put unnecessary burden on them. Classic keyboard warrior Bobby.
Yes they were cowards but don't pretend if you had a hand gun the outcome would have been any different. You'd be hiding behind a car or dead. You wouldn't be taking down any mass shooter for damn sure lol..
What? Your think the cops didn't do their job because the kid had a better gun? Would that stop you if kids where being murdered? If kids where being shot and I had a gun, I would engage. It's not bragging, it's what most people would do. You should be embarrased if you would do otherwise.
Don't forget that an off-duty cop working security stopped two gunmen in body armor and armed with assault rifles. He had a handgun. Why are we pretending that a crazed gunman with an assault rifle and maybe body armor is invincible? Are they supposedly a better marksman because they are wielding better weaponry?
