I’m good with the players getting the recognition of being an All-Star. 4 or 5 days off. The entire week off plus this past weekend is excessive imo.
I don't hate All-Star weekend. It's entertainment. I think the players deserve rest. I have no problem waiting a couple days for basketball. It's just a week, guys. LOL Everyone gets a couple weeks off at their regular jobs, why shouldn't NBA players?
It's better for kids, but not sure why anyone would feel strongly about this. All 4 major sports get a mid-season break.
NBA players get off from April-October. Unless they go far in the playoffs, then May-October. Regular jobs don’t. Not even remotely comparable. A week is a long time. And with the new scheduling, a huge break like that is obsolete.
This new schedule is why LeBron didn’t take his regular 2 weeks off in January. Golf won’t let a disabled guy ride a golf cart thru the course because it’s part of the physical stress applied to all participants. One must be able to walk the entire course. Forget about carrying the clubs; they all have caddies to carry that burden. NBA players seem to be very pampered nowadays.
A week is not a long time. Come on! These guys are running at full speed every other day during the season. It's just a week. let them have a week Plus a lot of us are sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day.
A week is a long time in a season that’s what, 25 weeks long? Not sure why there’s so much concern about NBA players getting time off. Should be a nonfacor. I understand how much money this thing generates though. Still wish it were at the end of the season.
I typically hate it and would rather watch a Rockets preseason game than watch Rockets players in the All-Star game. I hate the break from games. But I do admit the changes to this year's game made for a much more entertaining game. It was great to see both teams make an effort on defense and I thought Harden had some great defensive moments. A televised draft, which they're hinting now for next year, would make it more entertaining. As for the challenge contests on Saturday night I think it would be more fun if each team had to submit one player for each challenge. 30 players in each first round, eliminating large number of players before second and third rounds. And I'd disqualify players from the dunk contest for missing on their first attempt. This change would give all fans a stake in every contest. As it is now we don't have the best of the best in these competitions. We have the best of those that are willing to participate. It would be much more fun to have a Rocket in every contest. I realize it would be a gigantic overhaul but I think if a huge number of players were eliminated in a qualifying round it would help to solve the problem of adding too much time to the competition. Maybe the qualifying rounds could be on Friday night to give us a reason to tune in then too. Probably a bad idea. I'm just spitballing. I always care more about the playoffs first, regular season second, preseason third, with All-Star weekend a distant fourth.
I do not hate the whole ordeal but it rarely lives up to the hype. I guess maybe it would be cooler to actually attend. I do think they should play with the rules a bit in the ASG. The roster shuffle was cool, but I'm all for adding a 4 point line for the ASG. Let's see something we don't get to see in regular games besides just stars showing off.
I agree with the OP. It's been subpar for the past ten years or so. The 3 point shooting contest is the only event I find entertaining.
