    There will be air-conditioning...

As I said, I expect a lot of you to be eating crow on this 5 years from now. (This is slated to be finished by April, 2020, but I'm saying 5 because I think that will be how long it takes to make this something worth going to.)

That absolutely sounds like something the City needs to spend money on.

I'll see your 5 years and raise you another 5.

Actually, the city will not be spending money on the A/C. But nothing will occur in the Dome without it.

You're right, county not city. Still a total waste of money.

I wasn't playing word games. A/C isn't included in the approved plan. (although there will most likely be A/C put into the parking garage they are currently going to build.) I'm going to assume the Texans and the HLS&R will pay for it, as they have both said they will use it.

Yeah, I'm guessing that many posters are not old enough to remember the world's largest echo chamber. Saw Roy Rogers at the rodeo when I was a kid. Hi o silver!

Saw SRV and The Who the who the who the who way back when as well. Sound was bouncing everywhere.

Baby boomers are having a really hard time coming to grips with the fact nobody gives a crap about their childhood memories.

Considering they make up like 30-35% of the population and have an even greater deal of power.... I would say their childhood memories have quite a bit of sway.

Not a baby boomer but it isn’t ticking as fast as I thought. Recently read in 2029 baby boomers will still make up 25% of the population and 15-20% by 2043.

By the time the baby boomers pry their cold hands off the grip of power, you and I will be getting up there.

    2043....

Baby boomers span from the mid 1940s to the mid 1960s.

Even in 2030 the ass end of that spectrum will be hitting retirement age and average lifespan. They will be voting, but they won't be holding seats of power like that goober Ed Emmett.

In the next 20 years the majority of people in power in Houston will become those with little to no sentimental attachment to the Dome. Even more so with the enormous amount of growth by interstate migrants.

Those folks won't be hot to spend money on someone else's pet project meant to protect their feelings.

I think the end game will be when Reliant/NRG is finally up for demolition. When they tear that sucker down, the Dome is going with it.

Not a baby boomer ... support this project 100%. Has nothing to do with sports or memories. Solid architecture and an even more impressive engineering marvel. To tear it down would be a colossal waste of this cities most recognizable architectural feat.

I get the reason why people want to save a structure like this, but my problem is spending money on something that does not seem worth to spend money on. We have the convention center, NRG, etc, why the heck do we need another place. Granted this place is huge, but it does not seem to me that the demand is there, so I don't get it.

Since this is going to go through anyways, I hope that the area is eventually revitalized. NRG stadium has been there for a while and nothing really has come from that area. It is still pretty crappy area with nothing going for it. I'd be happy to be corrected if I'm wrong, but I'm upset that money is going into this thing. Has anyone even seen a rendering of what the proposed plan looks like?

the county could buy out a lot of homes in Meyerland and construct better flood control for $100 million but lets spend that on a rat house!

Nostalgia is a worse drug than heroin, it clouds even the basics of judgment.

Possibly, but it isn't that simple. A number of projects or areas protected are not from the same time period of the group in power.

I have no idea what happens to the Astrodome in 20 to 30 years. It could be torn down or could be viewed as an area of civic pride if it is utilized in a positive manner.

What I do know is that Houston needs more civil works, and areas to attract people and business. Houston is a great city in many ways and as someone that has lived everywhere, I can say it is one of my absolute favorites. However it lacks cultural sights.

Westbury could use some of that money as well for flood control, repair, and (never thought I'd say this) to get some police presence out here in the meantime. Crime out here has been bad lately. City seems to have moved on though.....

I'm not saying this project shouldn't be done eventually but seems like poor timing. Hard to get excited for it when the area is still in such poor shape.

Kill it with fire. And some TNT. Mostly that.

I'd drive down to watch the show and shed a tear.
