It’s pitiful that you try ruin the fun this year by trying to force people to pick between the 90s and today.

But you would see the defender bouncing back and forth after committing. Only for Olajuwon
to kick it out to Kenny or Cassell or Max. Then repost the entry pass into the post.
Would you get more tired going back and forth or sitting halfway between the players?

Guys would joke in the locker room before the game.

Player A: ohhh, you are in for a long night.

Why? Because teams didn’t perform help defense nearly as much or as well as they do today.
No way Draymond Green plays center back in those days. Not with those help defenses.

Horry was a 3 in 1993. Horry and OT would be standing past the 3 point trying to cover Anderson and Ariza while CP3, Harden abuse Kenny in the PNR. Those teamswere horrible covering the pick and roll, and they would have to cover 2 of the best PNR guards in history.

You just sound like an old geezer romanticizing about the past. You can appreciate the old championship teams and still believe in the current team. You know I was there for those championships and I was a there for the 81 and 86 run. I've been watching the rockets for over 30 years, and this is the best offensive team I've ever witnessed and the numbers back it up. Harden is having a historic year as a rocket.

 

Ok so you're just the grumpy old man who's going to remind everyone that no matter what happens things will never be as good as the mid 90s .. got it. Geez Louise grandpa after being here for 20 years you'd think a thick skin and sense of humor would have evolved naturally.

Personally I think people should stop whining about how this team doesn't measure up to the 90's team.

Let fans be fans dude. Half the people here probably were too young to remember the 90's team. Do you realize you just sound like an old fart now?

Who knows and who cares. You and I know Hakeem was the greatest ever Rocket. But who knows, maybe when Harden hangs it up he'll be considered the greatest. I sure do hope so because that would be exciting. And I hope someday someone better than Harden and Hakeem comes along in a Rockets red jersey.

I don't worry about which team was the greatest or who respects or disrespects what. I love the 90's team because of their never die spirit, the humility of Hakeem, the defense, and watching the play of the greatest post player in the history of the game.

I actually think this is a good thread.

It's kinda gotten off the rails (pun intended) with the 90's vs today thing...

But the point is as amazing as this team is going this season, we haven't even turned up for a playoff game yet.
let's pump the brakes a bit before making wild statements, enjoy the ride and hope for the best.

 

A lot would depend if they are playing by today's rules or the 93 94 rules. Hakeem would swat a lot of Harden's lay ups and even Paul's little short range pull ups. Hakeem would destroy Capela. Hakeem would also erase a lot of the lobs to Capela. Horry would be even better with today's rules. Vernon Maxwell would be a decent Harden defender. While Kenny Smith would get destroyed by Paul, Cassell was a really good defender. Would the 93, 94'team get a year to play under current rules because if so, Horry would play at the 4 and there is a possibility that Hakeem would be raining threes in addition to dream shaking and thunderdunking on everyone. (Hakeem was 8 for 19 on threes that year)
