It means, we are not doing anything. Keep your eye and ears open and alert the authority. That's the best we can do. Also, NRA - alert me of any other law or regulation blocking the mentally unstable from purchasing guns. We need to strike those down.
I love this logic. Bobby, do you think the problem is crazy people will find a way to kill 17 kids in a school even with a gun ban? If so please tell my why Australia hasn't had mass shooting since it's gun ban? Is it because they don't have as many crazy people as the U.S.? LETS STOP PRETENDING GUN BANS DON'T WORK. The real matter is Americans are more willing to take a chance that their kids won't get shot than losing their guns. Americans love guns more than kids. It's that simple.
The official study concluded: "The final report concluded the ban’s success in reducing crimes committed with banned guns was “mixed.” Gun crimes involving assault weapons declined. However, that decline was “offset throughout at least the late 1990s by steady or rising use of other guns equipped with [large-capacity magazines]." No, it's saying look at the facts then use common sense. If I wanted to say "Trust your gut" that's what I would have said. Quick example: my gut tells me to be more afraid of death on planes than in cars. Common sense tells me that's idiotic. Because common sense includes facts where relevant and appropriate and life experience. That's not what my gut tells me, its what common sense tells me. Except this is wrong. Gun bans have been extremely effective in most places worldwide. That a very limited gun ban had mixed effectiveness over a short time frame is kind of useless to the argument. If we banned all future gun sales today, asked all citizens with guns to turn them and bullets in, made it illegal and punishable by long jail sentences (heck, even death, just to make it as stringent as possible)... we're still talking about something that would take decades to permeate through the American psyche. That doesn't mean it's not a solution or won't work. It just means this is a very ingrained cultural issue in America and every day we wait, it's another day+ that's going to result in no effective solution Really strange comment. ... and?? It's a set of laws, that can be changed. For some reason there's a mythology around the constitution like it's a set of must be obeyed laws delivered by God him/herself (or whatever you believe)... If a part of the constitution is dumb and doesn't make sense, we should change it. Which is why we have in the past. No, I really don't think you understand what common sense is. It's not just making up stuff, as you seem to be doing. There are multiple countries, including ones VERY similar to America... England, Australia... where major gun control laws were put into place in the last 20-30 years as direct result of the fact that gun incidents were getting out of control and specifically following a mass casualty event like this. America is not unique. See, generally, this is what I'm talking about wrt common sense. Maybe you are just cherry picking stats?? Are there going to be outliers? Sure, absolutely. But pretty much every stat you can think of with regard to this issue will prove, unequivocally, a correlation between gun ownership and gun deaths. Here's a ton of charts: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/10/2/16399418/us-gun-violence-statistics-maps-charts To your specific point, here's a chart Relative to the above chart.... the "common sense" conclusion would tell you: (1) lets figure out a way to become an outlier below the line. This is what you want bobby. Meaning, let's be way better than average on gun homicides regardless of how many guns are owned by people. and (2) let's meaningfully... MEANINGFULLY reduce the # of guns owned by people. ----- Again... common ****ing sense. Knowledge, experience, facts, stats combining to tell you what is obvious. Global warming is real All people, regardless of race or creed, are created equally - racism is stupid Lax gun ownership laws leads to higher rates of gun deaths It's not complicated.
The Constitution is > Ameirca's kids. This country is solidifying itself as a Religious state but instead of worshipping a deity we worship the Constitution. So much for the armed guard theory:
Proof is you have very little knowledge about guns. Assault weapons ban does not ban semi-automatic rifles. It bans semi-automatic rifles with cute little things like pistol grips, suppressors (which helps reduce sound so people do not go deaf if ear protection is not used, not silencing), folding or adjustable stocks and a couple other pointless things that does not make a gun less deadly. Again, let me spell it out for you again. Assault Weapons ban DOES NOT BAN SEMI AUTOMATIC RIFLES or certain calibers . An AR15 is nothing more than a semi automatic rifle with those cute little toys added above. Further, those cute little toys will not be banned. It will only be illegal if the those little toys are attached to the rifle. So criminals can still purchase them and add them and commit crimes. AR15's are only popular because they look cool and scary not because they are assault rifles.
I can already see it though; the country places a ban on guns and those religous gun owners will lose their absolute **** and revolt. I'm not against owning guns but in no way should it be possible for depressed, bullied, never been laid Joe to purchase an AR like nothing. Like they say, it has to get darker before it can get bright and I am ready for it to be bright. These mass shootings have got to stop.
So ****ing what? The US military is the mightiest force ever seen in human history and these gun nuts really believe that their "cute little toys" will make a difference against that?
Anybody think there might be something particularly pathological about American society (perhaps lacks of health care?) that makes high school kids want to kill their teachers and classmates? Granted that in countries, not run by the gun manufacturers and their brainwashed fronts such as the NRA, the kids only have access to knives rather than AR 15's. I wonder if in these other countries every couple of days, as recently in the USA, the kids bring knives to try for mass killings. Maybe we just don't hear about it as they are disarmed by teachers and other kids employing lap tops, trash cans and brooms. Just wondering..
They don't even realize the premise behind the 2nd amendment given the context of the era. It was meant for a time where the vast majority of American land was parsley populated where individual citizens had no choice but to be their own standing militia since a standing police or military unit was no where near .
It's pathological that we enshrine the right to access the weapon used to murder and maim people, but then force the survivors to turn to GoFundMe to pay for their medical treatment.
My point, which wasn't expressed well because I am angry and offended by the pile of dead children in Florida and Connecticut, is "let them try to revolt." The true fanatics who see their unlimited access to guns as sacrosanct and necessary to combat a hostile government would lose, instantly, in any revolt against the US military. They would be bringing "cute little toys" to an actual gunfight.
You saw the Youtube post the shooter wrote, "I want to be a professional school shooter" There's you answer. The U.S. has successfully ignored this issue for so long that it's now a title, kids strive to become American celebrity.
Not to derail, but don't think this is the case. We worship the powerful and rich. Trump is quite anti-Constitutional (against free press, free expression, free speech, so on) but has strong support among Republican and religious right. If guns were somehow a danger to the powerful and rich, it would be banned.
