ideally i'd like pringles to play these old reserves according to opponent matchups. tucker can be very useful against certain teams D'ing up on 4's and grabbing rebounds. while JJ and green are great against the elite defensive teams to open up the offense off the dribble
J.J. can get 0 minutes here as long as he doesn’t play for GS.... Just keeping Wright and Johnson away from our competition is huge. I think Johnson is going to have a bigger impact than anyone can imagine, he has one job... One job..... Catch, drain threes.
36 years old - hard to believe it was 13 years ago that he was on those D'Antoni Suns teams. He's been on a crappy ride in Brooklyn and Utah since then. Cautiously optimistic.
Sure, Gerald Green, blah blah blah... With less than a minute left in a close game, I know which SF I want to be our third option behind Beard and CP3, and it's NOT Gerald Green. Or more realistically in an MDA offense: With less than a minute left in a close game, I know which small-ball PF I want to be our third option behind Beard and CP3, and it's NOT Ryan Anderson or PJ Tucker.
Bruh chill...I like Green too but dude's a black hole and chucker...even CP3 was telling him to calm down and work within the offense last night.
Joe and Luc can ease the pressure off Tucker, and make him more effective in a shorter period of time.
As much as i like Green, cant argue your point. Would much rather have JJ over Green in closing minutes of a playoff game.
Remember another proven aging vet named Johnson arrived in Houston mid season '97 shooting uncharacteristically poor, to light it up with us and hit a historic game winner vs Utah in the playoffs. Holllyy Mother Joe will be like Eddie...ready when called. joe shot 41% over last two years. He didn't suddenly lose his shot.
It's not a terrible thing to have a guy like that off the bench, a la Von Wafer. If he isn't on that night, you stick him back on the bench. Problem solved. If he's hitting, let the fireworks go. You don't want a starter like that, but an 8th-9th man? Yeah.
For those who are believe Joe Johnson to be washed up, I refuse to believe Joe Johnson can't have one game in a 7 game series where he shows up and plays huge. If he ends up being an X Factor for just one game in a tight series, this is a fantastic signing. But I agree with all of those who point to the fact we can now afford to rest players and still win. That's big. Honestly, our team is so deep that we could rest one of Harden or CP3 most games and still dominate.
My guess is since JJ's played only 32 games this season, D'Antoni will give him consistent minutes right away so he can acclimate asap. Rockets need to figure out exactly where he fits and how much he can give them. I wonder if they will play Brandan Wright and JJ much prior to the ASB.
