Someone made a great point that players that took discounts during the offseason might've also had a minutes stipulation in their contract. A bit too generous a take considering the way MDA plays, but still very possible.

    Relax dude, we won.

Plus if you really think RJ and Troy are gonna make THAT big of an impact, you'e crazy.

Markel only received minutes because he wouldn't become as much of a defensive liability as those other two. And he still got served up by J-Rich and Goki a few times.

We clearly have enough offense to get by... the defense is what's more concerning when Ariza and Gordon are out.

No doubt about that. But we need players who are reliable in a pinch. Unfortunately Troy Williams isn't that guy, right now. MDA sees what Gerald Green brings to the team and has started trusting him. If Troy was playing at that level, he would be getting minutes.

    I disagree a bit .

I think that if you have James and Chris , they can elevate players way beyond their actual level .

All Troy needs to do to be effective is hustle on D and take open shots .

My OP was less about even playing Troy than simply having him available. I know Troy isn't "relaiable" .... But say Luc , Gerald, or PJ gets into foul trouble . What would you rather do ?

    A. Play Troy Williams spot minutes .
    B. Play harden 46 minutes .

I'm picking A everytime . Troy Williams cannot cost us a game . On the other hand , playing harden 45 on a back to back is awful.

Harden played 36 minutes, where did you see he played 46?

I was talking about a hypothetical situation .
    Read the post again .

I'm not even complaining about the minutes management tonight ... Because it had to happen.

Why complain about a situation that didn’t occur? Rockets won, Harden didn’t play 46 minutes. If you’re going to look for things that MIGHT happen due to your perceived issues, you’ll never be happy with the team.

I’ve been wondering if the reason they are not being called up is because they are trade chips and playing them may hurt their value.

The point of our deep rotation is to keep everyone “fresher” and injury free. Why not play them to cut mins and see what you have when we are 7 deep?

Hey , I'm always looking for something they could improve on . To me , not having players up was a bad risk .

If it did happen , everyone here would be calling for people's heads . Just because we won the game doesn't mean that I can't have an issue with what we did.

There are so many possible scenarios where having emergency players called up could really help us .

The cost of calling them up (if nothing happens like tonight ) is pretty low.

If we had called up Troy Williams and everything else had played out exactly the same , what do we lose by it ? We lose 1 game of Troy playing in the G-league and that's it .

Now consider the non-negligble chance that something could have happened tonight .

    A) foul trouble
    B) injury
    C) blowout either way
    D) any 3+ min stretch of garbage time
    E) rotation player doesn't have it tonight

On the second night of a back to back ... I just don't see why you wouldn't call the guy up given that if something DOES happen , you are placed in a pretty bad spot .

Have you seen statistics for injury likelihood due to playing heavy minutes on a back to back ? ..... It is absolutely a statistically significant factor .

Given that we are competing for a title , I wouldn't want that scenario to happen .

Just because something DIDNT happen tonight doesn't mean the rockets shouldn't have planned for the possibility ... They absolutely should have , but did not . That's what my whole point is about , and it seems to have flown over your head.

Let's go over what DID happen:

    A) Only Brown had 4 fouls, so no one was in foul trouble
    B) No one got hurt
    C) Wasn't a blow out
    D) No garbage time
    E) No rotation player issues

    Let's add to that:

    F) Rockets won
    G) Harden played his average amount of minutes

It's icy where I live. Should I wrap myself in bubble wrap because I MAY fall down. You're getting all worked up because they didn't call up a couple of G League players.
