Expected excuses, deflection, and attacks and I got them all in the first page! Excuse the behavior, check. Deflect toward Trump, check. Attack the journalist, check. Well done automatons, you all really do exhibit bot like qualities.

Imagine how bad it'll be once they finally know what they are spinning.

Do you really have such a low bar for our highest office that you aren't ashamed that a man who brags about scoring perfect on a test that grandmothers over 80 take when they show early signs of Alzheimer's is holding that office?

You act as if this guy deserves a normal amount of respect for that office when deep down you know this guy is a scumbag idiot.

This dude was known as a scumbag idiot since the god damn 80s before he ever even nutted the idea of being a GOP politician(there are god damn documentaries about him being a sleezy idiot back in the 90s) and you act as if "libtards are butthurt" when in reality the entire political spectrum and including the apathetic think this guy is a clown. Only the right wing nut gobblers such as yourself think this guy is normal and isn't way in over his head. Even right wing lunatics like Bobbythegreat think Trump is a national embarrassment.

There is a difference between evaluating Trump the human being ("scumbag idiot" as you say), and respecting the office of the President. It's important not to conflate the two--these are separate (albeit related) issues. Even Ben Shapiro, no libtard, admits that Trump is a flawed human being, but holds out for the possibility that even a flawed human being could turn out to be a decent President:

Atleast there wasn't a 'You lie!' moment by a disrespectful Republican, even though Trump lies every single day.

    Republicans are hypocrites lol.

another non-Trump fan saying the Democrats erred in their response:

    http://theglitteringeye.com/whaddaya-know-im-not-alone/

    an excerpt:

"Worse, dozens of Democrats refused to stand when the president entered the House chamber, forgetting that one stands out of respect for the office, not the officeholder. Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) grabbed a middle-aisle seat only to turn his back on the president when he walked past. Democrats groaned, scoffed, heckled and made lemon-biting faces. Others simply boycotted. In short, they did the same sort of things they (and I) denounced Republican lawmakers for when they did them to President Barack Obama."

Same here. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like him. It doesn’t matter if the other guys did it. Exemplify the behavior you want to see in others. Be the change.

Democrats can’t win in 2018 simply by appealing to people who hate Trump. The most recent Monmouth University poll (PDF) comparing support for a generic Republican to a generic Democrat has narrowed to insignificance. Not everyone hates Trump as much as they do. They’ve got to appeal to them, too.

The Senate landscape for 2018 does not favor Democrats. If they fail to capture the House and the Republicans strengthen their hold on the Senate, which seems likely, it is not a good outcome for them.

Respecting the office arbitrarily with no merit behind it is bordering authoritarianism. Flawed is an understatement when it comes to Trump. Obama, Bush and Clinton were 'flawed' human beings.

Donald Trump is a man with absolutely zero discernible skills who is your stereotypical 80's 'handshake power move' pyramid schemer sleazy businessman who has absolutely zero nuance in any sector of knowledge and will spew out ramblings that have no coherent thoughts. The man has never once in his entire god damn life had the motivation to intellectually challenge himself.

You seem to be the type of person who walks by a homeless man rambling incoherent thoughts that have no basis in reality and the only conclusion you will draw is "well... I guess he wouldn't make a great public speaker" while the rest of us would be like "this dude should never hold a position of actual authority ever".

People like you are what have set the bar so hopelessly low for a position that is supposed to manage the world's largest bureaucracy and command the world's largest military.

Trump's supporters were all about not sticking with business as usual and not doing things the way they used to be done. It makes sense that Democrats and non-Trump fans would be upset. Trump himself has shown greater disrespect by appointments of people with no experience or even knowledge of how the jobs were done (remember the judicial appointment and the 24-year-old Taylor Weyeneth with no experience chosen to help lead the National Drug Control Policy, the lies about crowd sizes, putting up fake Time Magazine covers with his face on it, lying about why he wasn't Time's person of the year, the way he disrespects other world leaders all disrespect the office so much that they aren't behaving inconsistently with the person occupying the office.

Great points, agree 1000% - keep believing that 2018 is going to be good for you - I implore you and the gilttering eye to not worry about it all.

Frankly it's all just a media conspiracy to portray Trump and the Republicans as under any sort of threat from midterm losses - every election will always be like 2016. This is a safe assumption that the media doesn't want you to have. I demand you act accordingly, and it seems like you are doing so. Good job.

Yes. At what point does approval rating enter into it? At precisely what approval level is respect for the office no longer expected...and why?

And have you considered that a strong President who took a tough stance on an important issue could have a very low approval rating, yet have made a courageous decision that absolutely deserved respect (Gerald Ford comes to mind)?

The truth is that most liberals disrespected the office the instant it become clear Trump would be the one occupying it. TSome of Trump's actions since may not have helped...but likely it wouldn't have mattered, anyway, given that perspective to start with.

The Dems and their hand-puppets in the media have the volume of their racial animus and name calling turned up absolutely full blast. There is no way to make it louder. They are mad, yes very mad. They were glowering and pouting during the SOTU to make their point. They did not stand up to clap even news of low unemployment among minorities or the suggestion of a huge infrastructure bill, because they want everyone to know how angry and how offended they are.

Of course they are also hurling racial epithets indiscriminately and in an incredibly irresponsible manner, as is their standard practice, which some people who are not generally not all that interested in politics are seeing for the first time in connection with the aftermath of this SOTU speech.

It isn't working and they know it. The race card playing is being almost entirely ignored and nobody except the most unhinged leftist wingnuts are putting any stock in it. The anger is coming across for exactly what it is, the acting out of a large group of petulant children.

This is a very bad look for the Democrats.

Seriously, this speech is when Donald Trump was accepted as president by all but the most marginal opponents of Donald Trump. It is also the moment when the Democrat left discredited themselves with their shark-jumping display of excessive contempt for President Trump.

For reference purposes so we can look back on this moment later, this is when it happened. This was when Trump was legitimized as the President of the United States, with a big assist from the Dems and their petulant conduct on worldwide television.

January 30, 2018. Remember that date.

I don't know who you're aiming these comments at. I'm a life-long registered Democrat, I did not vote for Trump, and I'm not sure you have the political orientation of Dave Schuler at The Glittering Eye pegged accurately. I do however detest shitty thinking, and this thread and the D&D in general is full of it. Honestly I'm not even sure why I bother participating here.
