If Blake Griffin is a player you are counting on to win games in the postseason, you won't. Watching some of the Clipper meltdowns was painful. It was basically Paul trying to do everything because nobody else really wanted the damn ball.

He needs to be a 3rd option on an actual contender.

I honestly don't believe he can a 3rd option on a contender. He is a lot like Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, thinking they are better, but they are not.

 

Stop with this revisionist history BS. Dwight took a team to the finals as the best players. Carmelo took a team to WCF as the best player. They got old and arent't as good anymore, but in their primes both were pretty good.

 

I See a lot of people giving Detroit a hard time for this but i don’t see why? Sure Blake is an injury risk and they are not a contender right away but for what they gave up I think you take the superstar player... they were already capped out and hovering in 8 seed territory so what are they losing?

Sure it could cost you down the line if Blake rapidly declines and is making 35+ million a year but for Detroit being 3-4-5 seed for a few years is probably better than being the 14th pick or the 8th seed that gets swept.


Meanwhile people are praising the Clippers for just getting out of Blake’s contract but they are bottoming out and just got rid of the player that helped turn them from a laughing stock to a legit NBA contender. Sure they can spin it that they will have cap space but who’s going to the Clippers to try and rebuild? Everybody loves to tear it all down and rebuild but sometimes you turn into the Kings and can spend 20 years trying to find another Blake Griffin. And I don’t even really like Griffin but he is a top 15-20 player in the world.

Does this effect their ability to sign Free Agents? They pitched him 7 months ago, sold him on the Clippers and then they trade him to an undesirable destination (easily bottom 1/3, not winning a championship and not in a significant market). Not the same, but similar to convincing DJ to come back and then trade away the other two guys they sold him on teaming up with. I think we are going to see the Clippers as a lotto team for the next two decades.
