Huh? How does upside "matter most" when competing with GSW? Capela may not even reach his final form for another 5 years. What will CP3, who will be 33 in a few months, look like then? Will he even be with the organization? What about Beard? We'd be doing them, two of the greatest guards in the history of the game, a disservice by taking a wait-and-see approach. Beard's at his peak now, and we may look back in 20 years and deem this the most spectacular year of his career. There's no guarantee he'll be able to replicate this level of all-world production for the next 3-5 years, so we cannot afford not to strike while the iron is hot. It could be 2018 or never for all we know. There's no telling when this window will slam shut because of injuries, regression, attrition, etc.

Dwight is done as a competitive player...he also talked **** about the organization after he left, there's just no way they'd take him back at this point.

    I think you misundertood.
Even with a prime DJ, I'm not sure that is enough to put us over the top vs GSW.
Clint's upside may end up being higher than DJ's ceiling. It's not a sure thing as to if or when thus the risk.
If you are playing the high risk game which is the only way that Morey thinks we have a chance to beat an all time great team, might as well go with the one that has potentially a higher payout.

It matters because if you're not able to improve the team by signing a top player, the only way you have left is to hope players you already have on the team will improve their game (which would also give you better assets for a trade). Clint is basically the only player/piece which falls into this category for us. DeAndre is only going to get worse at this point, he's 30 and his game relies 100% on athleticism. If you swap him and Capela the team is not going to jump ahead of anyone, it's not like we would swap Capela for Embiid.

I really like how Capela can switch on to forwards/guards and play pretty good defense... I think that is pretty important for playing the GSW... not sure DJ can do that.

I'm not buying the DJ durability angle. Clint has never had a major injury, people are acting like he's got the injury history of Embiid or something, Clint's been relatively healthy, just has had a few random, unrelated injuries here and there.

DJ is turning 30 this year, he's 6 years older then Capela. I like Clints odds of staying healthy over the next 4 seasons at 24-28 years old better then Jordan at 30-34. This team needs to get younger, and trading our 3rd most valuable player for someone who's 6 years older doesn't help that. DJ and Clint are basically on the same level of play right now, except DJ is declining and Clint in improving.

The ONLY way this makes sense to me, is if the Clips give us a big package. Something like a 1st, Lou or Bev, and a young guy like Harrell/Thornwell/Dekker... along with eating Anderson's deal of course. They should have to PAY to get a much more valuable player in Clint, along witht the age discrpency, the CONTRACT situation also makes clint MUCH more valuable.

I see your point, but this machine is built around Beard and CP3 and I believe the most critical element of that high-stakes game to be gauging where those two will be if and when Capela does transform into a star.

    Doesn’t like Harden
    Doesn’t like Pick and Roll
    Doesn’t like MDA
    Doesn’t like CP3

Dwight has been "nonsense" for the last couple of yrs.

You popping off about adding him to the Rockets (and thinking it will improve the team) is "nonsense".
