Maybe they are complaining because the refs are actually worse than a few years ago?

    Just a thought.

The Refs job is harder than its ever been because of all the flopping, the hooking, the jumping into other players etc. And then the players want to complain after every call. I really don't think the players should be talking to the Refs at all.

I seldom see a very efficient player with triple double, zero TO, 100% FG, no missed FT. I also don't expect the same efficiency from the refs in their respective assignments regularly.

Look, as much as I like players calling out referees when they've truly messed with the result of the game - which wasn't the case today - I don't buy for one second Chris Paul or any player is serious about all of this. It's like a game to them too, they lose a few $ and then carry on. These talks they are supposed to be having during the ASB, and they've had in decades of NBA basketball haven't done a single thing to make it better. The only reason a guy like Draymond is talking is because it is affecting him and his whiny team mates this season and I agree blabblehblah that the whining has been bad.

Referees are inconsistent just like humans are and there's always been personal grudges, referees with quicker triggers than others etc. There's also always been players and team who were perceived and had an image of being tough so they received more leeway. As much as I love Rodman and how he got some ill-treatment due to his reputation, he got away with a lot of dirty stuff. So while Draymond (and Bogut) has obviously been protected by the league, just like Stockton and Malone, why is this never part of those conversations? Why does nobody call the league out on that? Why you hear Draymond now as opposed to last 2 years when he got away with freaking kicking people in the nuts?!?!!

This is just a great show and while they might be sincere about their frustration, you cannot tell me Draymond feels honestly him and his teammates are being targeted all of a sudden. You can also not tell me that him, CP3 and others complaining about referees has any sincere intent for change. They all know this league is about good television in the end. They get paid millions. Why should they bother? This league has never had integrity, neither does FIFA Football and probably none of the major sports broadcasted on TV.

Silver can pay lip service, but these fines still show they only care about the image of their product. I'm sure if you ask these players honestly that they know they are part of a league that is not about calling it right and being 100% true to the sport, they know and have to roll with it. If they disagree, they are lying! Why you think players laugh and commentators laugh at the travelling and consequent non-calls? They know it's not being called, unless a referee feels like it and blatantly obvious outside of a highlight dunk etc.

How about Harden actually being targeted, why you think that has happened? Only because the public backlash became too big: commentators hated watching him play, ESPN actively went against Harden for years and his playing style in particular, plenty of fans on twitter and fora complained about getting away with things. Harden took advantage of the fact that they did not call certain things, or call things a certain why like jumping in the air after a player jumps forward or the rip through move. This has little to do with calling it right, this is because of the public image of the league and one of its stars. Why does nobody call the league out on that?

To me it's because of the unwritten rules and understanding of any player or employee within the NBA that it's all about public image, good TV, narratives etc. Referees are protected, to a certain degree they always should be, but the way they are in the NBA is for me an indication of said unwritten rules. Same goes for star calls, narratives to help certain players get MVP etc.

P.S. take JVG's fine and not getting back into coaching since. He pointed out the corruption, just like Donaghy did and the only reason JVG was allowed back in the league is because he kept quiet about what truly happened ever since. Either you accept a 'corrupted' league or get out.

One thing that has always bothered me about referees is when they make an emphatic charging call that pumps up the home crowd. We aren't there to watch the refs and a lot of these guys let those moments go to their heads knowing all the eyes are on them.

To add to this, the refs change pretty major rules between seasons (hell even the postseason) so it is confusing as a fan to watch something that was called consistently during the regular season all of a sudden become a no call just a couple of weeks later. Not sure why they feel the need to drastically change rules or single out certain players just because of how they play. The continuation rules are out of control but the league office seems to harp on different rules which really hampers a handful of players while other players benefit from it. Too much inconsistency from season to postseason to season.

Remember when they started calling moving screens on Yao ONLY in the postseason that one year? What a joke that was. They single handedly limited Kevin Martin by not calling his minor bumps anymore.

Was going to post this but forgot & it’s not the first time this happens. Everyone gets leniency on the continuations except Harden.

Momentum and rhythm exist. It applies to all facets of work. We all work better with wind at our backs and I’m the type that does amazing when in a zone. When I get a phone call or someone barges in unannounced it totall throws me off my game when I could’ve followed through with a task or project that was important.

This is how refs affect outcomes. You start calling touch fouls tight (which they did) and call every offensive foul (which they did) and a 14 pt lead becomes a 3 pt lead. This is exactly how it went down last night. This is exactly how the Celtics game got blown.

Refs create wind. That Lillard shot was not continuation and was an offensive foul. That Green foul was ridiculous.

And yet this dude is notorious for cussing out these officials since day one. And he gets away with it a lot.

Hmmm interesting they stopped calling that for Martin when he was in a Rockets uniform. Now they came out with a Harden rule.

    Conspiracy theory

As a fan, I just wish 90% of the whining from the players would go away, and that that would in turn put more of a spotlight on refereeing decisions. They should only be complaining about the truly egregious calls - the worst 10%.

Obvious foul call —> player incredulous —> broadcast gives delusional player ten second closeup.

This pattern happens about 47 times per game, and it’s more annoying than bad calls (except for the ones against HOU). I wish they would go back giving out techs on any and every complaint like they did briefly several years ago.
