Clint Capela is a mediocre rebounder and a low IQ defender

When Capela plays more minutes his rebound rate falls off.

I mean late blooming as in he continues to get better every year into his late 20s, not that he's not already good now. DJ is a finished product and who knows how many years he'll be in his "prime," but he does do some stuff better than Capela that would be really valuable on this team. Especially on defense. It's a tough choice.

Agreed on Nene and Black being bad this year. Especially Black, that turned out to be a bad signing.

He has been all year;) it’s his soft play against bigger guys that keeps him from being great.

Unless capela wants a super contract next year, thats more or equal to jordan, i don't see us swapping jordan for capela. Houston seems invested in him.

All the teams that we have to seriously worry about in the playoffs, don't have bigger guys on their team. I used to think the same thing.

He's actually a smart defender. He doesn't get the calls many stars do, and has actually gotten really good at blocking and defending shots with finesse. He wouldn't get away with the hacking, pushing, or shoving some of those guys we despise get away with. He would foul out by the half if he played the same style game they do. One day he might get more of those calls.

I think the "cure" for our problems at the 5 would be getting a good backup for Clint, not moving him. Nene, when he plays, simply isn't playing at the level he played at last year (based on my eyeballs, not the numbers I haven't looked at), which is a surprise, at least to me. Black? So far, he looks like an end of the bench guy, not the solid, dependable backup we need. People are talking about DJ, and I can't stop thinking about that free throw shooting (and I don't care what he's shooting now - look at his history!) and the bizarre results of the last time he was looking for a contract. Has everyone forgotten that? If he can opt out this summer, where does that leave us? Will we be dealing with another melodrama, when we'll be looking at signing Paul to a deal, signing Capela, and if we're incredibly lucky, bringing LeBron to Houston?

I know moving RA would make a bunch of us excited as hell, considering his contract, but moving Capela for DJ in order to make that happen? I'd pass.

I'd say he's an average-good rebounder, but yes, he does have bone-head plays sometimes, especially defending the post. But overall, I'd take him over deandre. He has more upside at this point and you don't wince whenever he shoots fts which is key in close games. He may not jump as high, but it's enough and he's learned how to fit well with harden.

Highest MPG of his career, Highest TRB% of his career.

Despite his flaws, this is demonstrably false. In fact, more minutes have increased his TRB% significantly.

Clint is a very smart player, offensively and defensively. Plus he's a hard worker. His improvement each season to where hes a borderline all star this season is a testament to his BBIQ and work ethic.

SMH. We’re we not nearly unbeatable with CP3, Harden, and Clint in the lineup? We got the depth. Capela although not that muscular can out run every other center in the game that has his length. He improves tremendously year after year. What else do you want?

Personally I would rather have Steven Adams but that isn’t an option. Clint Capela isn’t as good as some think... BUT he has improved a lot and deserves a lot of credit. He is no longer a black hole or a major hole that needs addressed.

I think to have a negative thread on Capella, who's still developing and improves every year, and is one of the best big men in the league on the best defensive rebounding team in the nba is a bit unfair. Low IQ defender? Alridge would disagree with you.

Answer to backup 5 is not DJ, it’s Nerlens Noel. Much cheaper, younger and more easily acquired without gutting team.

A bit late to the conversation but seriously it's Capela's 2nd season at starting Center, not entirely his fault if he looks a step late when he has to switch. The entire team's defensive MO is to switch every position while guarding but it doesn't always look as effective as if they could play man defense. Plus you have a back up (Nene) who isn't always available some nights so I'm sure that doesn't help with consistency in playing time.
