I have always said the election of 2016 show exactly what United States is at this point of time.

I hear what some of you guys are saying about "America", but I'll say this again: If the Dems weren't stupid enough to decide after 2012 to clear the deck chairs for the worm-filled piece of molded fruit named Hillary Clinton, Trump would not be president. She was the only person that could have lost to him.

In retrospect, it's clear to me if the Dems had a free and open nomination, Hillary would have been exposed and vanquished (probably early in the process) and a vetted, legit, fresh candidate with momentum would have won. I doubt very much selfish Bernie would have become such a folk hero without a pathetic and flawed "front-runner" to attack. But when you game things for 4 years and it's still barely enough to get her by, you deserve to lose. Yes, Russia interfered, but it shouldn't have been close enough to make a difference.

On the Republican side, the Freak Show actually won. I'll leave it at that for now.

IMO, 2016 was a fluke. However, if America again elects a complete piece of trash as president in 2020, God help this country (and the world).

It's rare that I read a post in d&d this long and agree with every single point. But there it is.

This is really just a cop out. In the end everyone had a choice between a corrupt, racist, ignorant, lying buffoon and a corrupt, lying technocrat. Obviously one of those would make a superior President to the other so the idea that one was such a bad choice as to have chosen the clearly worse choice is just a non-starter. Nearly all of the Republican candidates were a superior choice to Trump. People had to continually, month after month support a corrupt, racist. ignorant, lying buffoon over clearly more qualified and capable candidates at every step of the way. The truth is hard to swallow, we're a poorly educated, bigoted, morally bankrupt nation. We see it every day all the time. Time to just call it what it is for once.

This can easily be proven, either via tapes the author claims to have, and by records of White House visitors. Oh yeah, forgot that the trump WH doesn't release their visitor logs contrary to every previous administration.

Bernie lost fair and square. All the polling data said trump was going to lose. Hillary won the popular vote basically by the same margin as what the polls predicted. The fact that America voted for a guy who pretty much admitted raping girls and has won reflects the ethos of a lot of Americans..

If I'm not mistaken, there was no other candidate being considered but Clinton, and she had very few issues (besides the usual hating her b/c shes' a Democrat, and vice versa). People fall too much for recognized names vs. who is better. The email scandal hit after she gained too much momentum to be replaced. Sanders would've been better, but his appearance on the national scene was too late. Shame that Sanders didn't catch on sooner.

Sorry, but blaming Democrats for trump becoming president as a way of absolving the people that actually and intentionally voted for him seems questionable at best. Everyone that stepped into that voting booth and pulled the lever for someone who most people knew had questionable at best ethics and moral makeup should bear the brunt of responsibility... not those that voted against him.

Sure... there are lessons to be learned for the Democrat party, and hopefully different and better candidates will be the result.

Politically, yes, it was a snapshot. But more than 40% choose to not participate. What it said more than anything is Americans take their rights for granted. We are a bunch of spoiled rich people that don't appreciate what we have.

What it does also said is a significant part of the GOP, who still maintain 70+% support of Trump, has gone so far off the rail that decent conservative have no idea where they fit anymore. Certainly not the Extremist Trump GOP, and not the DEM either.

I also admit that I didn't see this America. That portion of extremists America is very real. I didn't believe it was that mainstream (30% is MS to me).

Hillary was a way better political candidate because she is not a seven year old, I laugh at people who voted for Trump so they could destroy the system or he was going to care about the little people, Hahaha.

This notion that Bernie wouldn't have been thrown into the dumpster fire known as right wing propaganda that is rampant on social media and click bait news sites and a new 'red scare' would form if they knew he was going to be the potential DNC candidate is hilarious and so naive.

Hillary didn't lose the election. The majority of this country using Facebook news feeds, Twitter feeds and relying on click bait 'news' sites rather than subscription based news(wsj, nyt, WaPo etc) that were injected with content from massive troll farms and adolescent kids who worship twitch celebrities along with believing people like Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh as actual credible sources is what allowed Trump to win the election.

Maybe there is a misunderstanding, but I think we all realize the right wing propaganda machine would have attacked Bernie just as savagely as Hillary. I don't necessarily think Bernie would have beaten Trump. Probably not.

My point is if the Dems had a free and open contest starting in 2012, they would have produced a stronger, battle-tested candidate with an actual message and a passionate following. The larger margin of error would have beaten Trump.

I miss Sean, he is better than Sara, more likable as a person. Wonder why Trump selected her.
