Astros reportedly pursuing Carlos Gonzalez

Interesting. I could see it work. Maybe the Astros believe they can turn his swing around and put him on a two-three year deal (maybe one) and package Fisher in a deal for pitching. Gonzalez also has the GG status to his name. Fun guy added to an already "fun" clubhouse. He's from Venezuela, so I'm sure Altuve has been in his ear. Maybe a discount? I like it. Checks all the boxes.

Imagine if he had a resurgence...

 

Guy was an All Star in 2016...disappointing 2017. I have no idea what to expect from him in 2018, but I trust Luhnow.

 

I trust him too. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a Reddick type of offer.

He'd be a good DH candidate. Supplant Marwin in the outfield every so often against NL teams.

Hopefully he can learn to hit outside of Coors field if he moves to the AL. Not a big fan of this unless it's a very cheap deal

 

Less than $10M/yr and I like it. Plenty of upside, downside mitigated by Marwin and Marisnick.

i don't mind (the real) CarGo. I think he's drastically overrated and has been extremely streaky the last couple of seasons (in addition to the aforementioned home/road splits). I'd be happy to take a chance if he comes at < $10M/yr for maybe 2 years. More than that I think is an overpay or an unnecessary risk given the future guys coming anyway

 

If they get Gonzalez or another starting caliber OF signed for 2-3 years it really frees them up to trade Fisher. Things start to get pretty awesome when considering what Houston might be able to get with some of the “extra” guys they will have in AAA. Using Fisher, Martes, Musgrove, Paulino, Feliz, and Moran, they could add at least 1 and probably 2 star quality players with multiple years of control. And there are a ton of guys on the market who could really help Houston: Realmuto, Archer, etc.

 

If this is true then it seems they know something about his swing or some inside info. Dude seems like he's always hurt.
