Another weird one is on Sundays if you are at a restaurant and order alcohol before noon, you have to have food on the table.

The same with cars: demand doesn't really change, so why make them be open another day and increase their expenses to make the same sales?

Which is why you buy the stuff you need in advance. It's pretty simple.

Can't tell you how many times I forgot to buy beer before Sunday before Georgia legalized it (starting at 12:30, just in time for you know what). Not sure if it is still illegal on certain holidays like it was before. Funny story once though, sent my brother on a beer run on a Sunday, realized after he was gone that he can't buy beer on Sunday. He comes back with 2 cases of beer. Turns out the store clerks sometimes forget (or I suppose ignore) the law.

Their revenues would definitely increase as people forget, run out, or are from out of town. But I guess it would make sense that they may not increase enough to justify the added cost.

Also, a majority of stores are mom-and-pops and it's the only day they get to take off.

This same thing happened with my girlfriend a few years ago. I realized after I sent her, decided to just wait for the call or text that they cannot sell it. She comes back with beer. I figured it was her t***.

It surprised me too when I looked into it a year or so ago. I had always just blamed the Baptists!

Yes, I think this is it. Or, as @juicystream said, even if it would increase their revenue it wouldn't be enough to offset the additional costs. Liquor stores in Texas have an effective lobby. IIRC they're also the ones keeping liquor out of large stores and convenience stores.

Must have been from a small store. I would have thought that all POS systems would just automatically be unable to ring up these beverages during certain times. I know that's how it worked at Buc-ee's some years ago.

Would prefer they closed on Sundays voluntarily if they wanted to, not force it on everyone via the law.

I know, we've had this discussion before.

They don't want the option because they assume it will just force everyone to be open.

I was at Krause Springs on about day 4 with a crew of miscreants, I had kind of lost track of what day of the week it was. I'm an early riser, so I head up to the Spicewood Store, I'm sure looking a little rough, for kolaches, tacos, gatorade, smokes, for the gang. "Hell, I'm here, might as well pick up some beer", I says to myself. Old lady behind the counter just looked at me, smiled and said "Son, you oughta be in church." That's when I realized it was actually 8am on a Sunday.

Its kind of the American way of thinking
We hate regulation of any sort
We want to people to voluntarily do the thing
We get madd pissed when they don't

not just about liquor but life in general

Everyone loves the idea of people being able to get out of bad marriages
but boy do we b**** about high divorce rates.
